Devin Booker and the Suns will try to take down LeBron James and the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night at the Staples Center on TNT.

The Suns are heading into this one confident after slaughtering the Minnesota Timberwolves 118-99 on Sunday.

However, they will be meeting a confident Laker group fresh off a 117-91 beating of the once great Golden State Warriors.

Los Angeles has not even been challenged in this series recently as they have won seven of the last eight meetings between the clubs. The latest was a 125-100 massacre back in February of 2020. In this matchup, the Lakers are favored by 1.5 points and there are plenty of player props to consider.

Low-Hanging Fruit

Marc Gasol is a shell of himself at this point in his career but betting props is not about betting players, it’s about betting numbers. Gasol’s point total is routinely 6.5 and he routinely goes over that total. In fact, in his last seven games, he has scored at least seven points six times. He has done it in less than 20 minutes in four out of four tries.

Gasol shouldn’t see much more than 20 minutes tonight but he may not need to in order to hit this total for a fifth straight game. At this point in his career, he has become a three-point shooter who just hangs out beyond the arc. In his last nine games, he has hit at least two three-pointers in eight of them. If that were to happen tonight, he could see double digit points as DeAndre Ayton is out of his element guarding the perimeter.

  • The Pick: Marc Gasol Over 6.5 Points (-116)

Chris Paul Still Has Game

On player that father time is having a hard time with is Chris Paul. At 35 years old, he’s still playing 30-plus minutes per game and he’s still an All-Star. He is still averaging 16 points and nine assists while enjoying his best three-point shooting percentage in years.

Sticking with the theme of betting numbers not players, we can safely bet Paul’s points plus assist number tonight. This game is one that should stay competitive throughout and if that happens, Paul projects to play 30-plus minutes. That’s important because in his last seven games playing more than 30 minutes, Paul has gone over 26 points plus assists in all of them. Last time out against Minnesota, he only took eight shots and still managed to get over 26.

One area Paul should flourish is his assist total. He’s cracked double digits in each of his last three games and the only four teams in the NBA are worse on the season in the opponent assist per field-goal made metric than the Lakers. In the last three games, only one team has been worse as 67.6% of their opponents’ field-goals have been assisted. Chris Paul is in a great position to hit his points plus assist total tonight.

  • The Pick: Chris Paul Over 25.5 Points + Assists (-115)
