  • The Memphis Grizzlies are 8.5-point favorites at home vs the Lakers
  • Los Angeles will be without LeBron James, who’s out with a foot injury
  • Read below for the Lakers vs Grizzlies odds and predictions

In a funk since mid-January, the Memphis Grizzlies (36-23, 25-5 home) hope a win over the West’s best snaps them out of it.

They’ll get a chance for payback against the team that started that tailspin, when the suddenly spry Los Angeles Lakers (29-32, 14-18 away) come to town.

LA has ripped off a pair of wins out of the all-star break, and three straight overall, but they’ll be without LeBron James for this one, as he’s been ruled out with a foot injury, while D’Angelo Russell (ankle) is doubtful.

This one gets going Tuesday (Feb 28) at 7:30pm ET from FedExForum in Memphis, TN. You can watch the game live on TNT.

Lakers vs Grizzlies Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Los Angeles Lakers +8.5 (-110) +300 Ov 234.5 (-110)
Memphis Grizzlies -8.5 (-110) -365 Un 234.5 (-110)

The NBA odds are not kind to the visitors, pegging the Lakers as 8.5-point underdogs, and +300 on the moneyline, in a game that features a total of 234.5.

At 25-5 at FedEx, Memphis has the 2nd-most home wins in the West, and they’ve won four straight on their home court. They sit in second in the conference, looking up at only Denver.

The Lakers are just a half-game out of the 10th and final play-in spot in the West, and trail the 6th-seeded Mavericks — sitting just above the play-in fracas — by 2.5 games.

Los Angeles Betting Analysis

What looked like an absolute blowout turned into one of the best games the Lakers have had all season, rallying from 27 down to upend the Mavericks 111-108.

Anthony Davis looked like the pre-injury version of himself (this season, lol) for the first time in a while, scoring 30 points, grabbing 15 boards, with four assists and three blocks.

James had 26 points and eight boards, and the team got a real injection of juice from Jarred Vanderbilt. One of the newest Lakers, JV had 19 points, 17 rebounds — eight on the offensive glass — and four steals.

That energy helped LA overcome a night when they were a brutal 6-for-34 from downtown, a 17.9% clip, and were outscored by the Mavericks on the arc by 32 points.

A team that usually allows 117.9 points per game (24th in the NBA), Los Angeles has dropped that total to an average of 107 on this win streak, while still pumping out over 118 points per game, a tick better than their 6th-best scoring average.

Memphis Betting Analysis

Nothing like a blowout win to let everyone know you’re still here. That’s what the Grizzlies did with a 112-94 thumping of the West-leading Denver Nuggets.

Ja Morant led the way with 23 points, the only player in the game to crack the 20-point plateau, adding seven boards and four dimes. Luke Kennard, the only trade deadline pickup for the Grizz, did what he was brought in for, drilling four three-balls for his 12 points.

Since their 122-121 loss to the Lakers on Jan 20, Memphis went on to lose every game of that 5-game road trip, and 10 of their last 14 until that much-needed statement win.

Memphis is a top-10 scoring team in the league at 115.9 points per game, and they match that with an even better defense that allows 111.9 points, tied with the Phoenix Suns for 5th-best in the NBA.

Lakers vs Grizzlies Betting Prediction

There’s not a lot to gather from LA’s 122-121 win over Memphis in the first meeting, as the now-departed Russell Westbrook led the Lakers with 29 points, followed by James’ 26. Morant had 22 points and eight assists in the loss.

Memphis has feasted on LA at FedEx, going 5-2 against the spread at home against the Lakers. Los Angeles has been much better of late, going 4-0 ATS in their last four games against teams with a winning record.

Prior to the Lakers’ reshuffle, LA would have probably been an 8-9 point ‘dog with James and Davis. Now? Without LeBron, they still could still be competitive.

While that is tempting, let’s take the total. With James and Russell down, LA may struggle putting up points. Even after their win over Denver, Memphis has averaged just 111.1 points in their last 15.
