The Los Angeles Lakers (23-28, 10-16 away) try to avoid a third straight loss to open their 5-game road trip when they visit the New York Knicks (27-24, 12-13 home).
They’ll need to do it on the second night of a back-to-back, after losing the Brooklyn Nets Monday night.
After impressive wins over East biggies Cleveland and Boston, New York fell to those same Brooklyn Nets last time out.
It all gets underway Tuesday (Jan 31) at 7:30pm ET from Madison Square Garden, in a game you can see live on TNT.

The NBA odds have the visiting Lakers as 2.5-point road ‘dogs, with +118 odds on the moneyline.
LA enters this matchup sitting 13th in the West, 2.5 games back of the Jazz, who own the 10th and final play-in berth. New York is in seventh in the East, a game back of the Heat and above the play-in fray.
They are the only team in the NBA in one of the playoff positions with a losing home record (12-13).
Los Angeles Betting Analysis
The Lakers sat both LeBron James (ankle) and Anthony Davis (foot) against the Nets Monday, but both could be back in the lineup Tuesday night, as the Lakers try to avoid their fourth loss in five games.
Against BK, the undermanned Lakers fought their way back from a double-digit deficit to take a 7-point lead in the third quarter. The wheels eventually did fall off in the fourth, where they were outscored 36-22 en route to a 121-104 L.

Thomas Bryant led the Lakers in scoring with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Russell Westbrook came off the bench with 17 points, 10 assists and eight boards. Rui Hachimura, in his third game since being acquired, had 16 points and four rebounds.
The Lakers are top-5 scoring team in the league, putting up 117.1 per game, and do plenty of damage inside. Their 56.6 points in the paint per game are second only to the Memphis Grizzlies.
They struggle on the defensive end, though, surrendering 118.1 points a contest, the fourth-worst mark in the league.
New York Betting Analysis
This will be the first of four straight home dates for the Knicks, and LA is the lone West opponent they face in that stretch.
After an OT win over the NBA-leading Celtics, New York couldn’t sustain the success, losing 122-115 to Brooklyn.
Jalen Brunson had a team-leading 26 points and four dimes, while RJ Barrett had 24 points and six rebounds. Julius Randle, coming off back-to-back 30+ point performances, was held to 19 points, with 10 rebounds and eight assists.

New York is 16th in scoring at 114.3 points per game, and they do a lot of work on the glass, with 13.2 offensive rebounds per game (2nd), which helps them to 17.5 2nd-chance points per game, tops in the NBA.
Defensively, the Knicks are second in field goal defense, holding teams to 45.3% shooting, and sixth in three-point defense, holding teams to 34.9%. The Lakers are tied for the 2nd-best three-point shooting D, a stingy 34.7% clip.

This is the first of two meetings between these glamour franchises this season.
Los Angeles is 4-4 straight up and against the spread playing the second game of a back-to-back this season. The Knicks haven’t been able to take advantage of a rest advantage, though, just 2-4 ATS this year.
For their part, the Lakers are 4-0 ATS in their last four against teams with losing records at home, and 5-1 ATS in their last six road games.
