Brown Has Breakout

Bruce Brown, subbing at power forward for injured Kevin Durant, scored a career-high 29 points Tuesday night. It marked just the third time in Brown’s three-year career he reached the 20-point mark.

Brown scored 13 points in the fourth quarter when he keyed a decisive 14-1 run midway through the period with eight points. The spurt pushed the Nets’ lead from 110-109 to a commanding 124-110.

The Nets now have their longest winning streak since running off 14 in a row in 2006.

Durant missed his fifth straight game with strained hamstring and will not play Thursday. He was the leading vote getting among Eastern Conference players in NBA All-Star Game balloting.

James Harden also had 29 points along with 14 assists and 11 rebounds. It was his sixth triple-double in 19 games since being acquired from the Houston Rockets in a Jan. 13 trade.

During the Nets’ winning streak, Harden is averaging 27.7 points. He and Kyrie Irving were selected as All-Star reserves Tuesday.

Irving celebrated with a 21-point, seven-assist, three-steal performance. He has scored 20-plus points in six of the last seven games.

Joe Harris finished with 18 points. He and Harden each made five 3-point field goals.

Not So Magical Night

The Magic had a clunker Tuesday against the Pistons, two night after beating them 105-96 in the opener of a two-game series.

Orlando shot just 37.5% from the floor, connecting on 33 of 88 attempts. The Pistons also scored 20 points off turnovers and 16 fast-break points as the Magic fell to 1-12 this season when allowing at least 100 points.

Nikola Vucevic had 20 points and nine rebounds after learning he had been selected to the All-Star Game for the second time in his 10-year career. However, he made just 9 of 22 shots, including 2 of 8 from beyond the arc.

It was a rare off night in February for Vucevic, who is averaging 26.5 points and 13.2 rebounds in 11 games this month. On Sunday, he dropped 37 points on the Pistons while grabbing 13 boards.

Even Fournier was held to 14 points on 4-of-14 shooting. That came after he scored 28 points against the Golden State Warriors and 29 against the Pistons in the previous two games.

Nets Won Last Month

The teams are meeting for the second time this season. The Nets won 122-115 on Jan. 16 at Brooklyn, though they did not cover the nine-point spread.

Harden had a triple-double in his Nets’ debut, posting 32 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds. Durant scored a game-high 42 points and Harris added 17.

Vucevic had 34 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Terrence Ross contributed 23 points off the bench for the Magic.

The Magic have gone 7-12 since that game after starting the season 6-7. Meanwhile, the Nets are 14-6 following a 7-6 start.

While the Magic have played better lately, they won’t be much of a match for a Nets team now hitting on all cylinders.

Pick: Nets -7.5 (-110)
