Odds taken March 29th

Jaylen Brown Lets it Fly

The Boston Celtics are changing the way they play basketball and bettors should take notice. They are 19th in the NBA in three-point attempts on the season, but over the last five games, no team has taken more three-point attempts than the Celtics.

Boston is averaging ten more attempts than their season average during that span and it doesn’t look like opponent is factoring in the decision. They just seem to be letting it fly.

Jaylen Brown has been the biggest beneficiary of this change in approach. The most he has ever averaged per game in his career before this season is 5.9 three-point attempts per game. This season he is up to 6.7, but over the last three games that number has ballooned to 11.2 three-point attempts per contest. In that span he has taken at least seven in every game and splashed at least three of them.

Tonight Boston welcomes the second worst team in the league at defending the three-point line in the Pelicans. Nobody is worse on the road as New Orleans allow opponents to hit 41.4% of their three-point attempts in their own buildings.

This seems like a spot for Brown to hit at least three triples tonight even at the elevated price of -140.

  • The Pick: Jaylen Brown Over 2.5 Three Pointers Made (-140)

Zach LaVine Set for a Big Night

The Chicago Bulls went out and got Nikola Vucevic at the trade deadline, which will take some usage away from the other Bulls. The main player that will take a hit will be Zach LaVine.

He was taking almost 20 shots a game this season before the Vucevic trade so it remains to be seen how many he gets now. Bettors shouldn’t worry though, at the end of the day, when you have a guy like LaVine on your roster, you get him the ball.

Tonight seems like an opportunity to take advantage of the books over-compensating because of the Vucevic trade.

LaVine’s point total is a couple points below where we are used to seeing it and he has a “defense optional” matchup with the Golden State Warriors. Over the past three games, no team has been less efficient defensively than the Warriors. As a result, this is the type of game LaVine could easily go over 30 points even with the new mouths to feed in the offense.

  • The Pick: Zach LaVine Over 24.5 Points (-116)
