Two struggling teams will meet on Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden as the Dallas Mavericks (10-11, 1-8 away) visit the New York Knicks (10-12, 4-6 home). This is also the first time Jalen Brunson faces his former squad. The tip-off is scheduled for 12:30pm ET.

The Mavs are coming off a disappointing overtime loss to the lowly Detroit Pistons on Thursday, despite Luka Doncic balling out for 35 points. The Knicks, meanwhile, were bested by Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks Wednesday evening and come into this one well-rested.

Mavs Struggling on The Road

Dallas won’t be pleased with their 10-11 record in the first place but more importantly, they’ve shown zero consistency away from home. at the American Airlines Center, they’ve gone 9-3. On the road? An atrocious 1-8. It’s been their kryptonite.

Luka continues to impress with MVP numbers of 33.6 points, 8.7 assists, and 8.6 rebounds, while Christian Wood has proven to be their second-best player, averaging 16.9 PPG and 7.7 boards. Both guys did what they could on Thursday against Detroit, but Dallas got absolutely destroyed inside and it proved to be costly.

The Pistons outrebounded them 52-30 and outscored the Mavs 54-44 in the paint. Also, Jason Kidd’s squad allowed Detroit to shoot 43% from deep. That certainly didn’t help. To make matters worse, Dallas is a putrid 5-15-1 ATS. Not a good sign for Saturday.

Knicks in a Rut

New York isn’t sitting pretty at 10-12, but they’ve also dropped three of their last four games to downright superior opponents in Portland, Memphis, and Milwaukee. The arrival of Brunson has paid off offensively, but the rest of the rotation is far from consistent.

In fact, just three players, Brunson, Julius Randle, and RJ Barrett are averaging double-figures. And while the Knicks rank 10th in PPG, the squad is shooting a brutal 31.8% from downtown. That ranks 30th.

Their inability to shoot the triple continued on Wednesday, draining just 20% of them in the loss to the Bucks. NY also shot only 65% from the charity stripe. On a more positive note, Barrett dropped 26 points to lead the way. Brunson and Randle combined for 35, too.

From a betting standpoint, the Knicks are 9-11-2 ATS in 2022-23 and actually play better on the road, going 6-6 as opposed to 4-6 at MSG. However, their recent success against Dallas should give them some much-needed confidence here.

Mavericks vs Knicks Prediction

I simply cannot look past the Mavs’ 1-8 road record. Truly abysmal. Pair that with New York’s success versus Dallas and the Knicks look like a solid ATS pick.

Pick: Knicks +1.5 (-110)
