Celtics vs Knicks Odds and Picks

With all 30 teams across the NBA in action on the final day of the regular season, we’ll have a marquee matchup in the afternoon between the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks. Tip-off is scheduled for 1pm ET.

For the C’s, this game doesn’t mean a lot. They’re already going to be the #7 seed in the Play-In, while New York can lock down the fourth spot in the East if they win this one.

Boston will be very shorthanded once again on Sunday, with Tristan Thompson, Kemba Walker, and Marcus Smart all out. NY, meanwhile, has a clean bill of health.

Boston Trying to Get Healthy

It’s been a very underwhelming season for the Celtics as they’ve struggled to stay healthy. But, the team still has a chance to get to the playoffs. With one game left, getting to full strength again should certainly be the number one goal. Jaylen Brown has already been ruled out until next season, while Walker, Smart, and Thompson are dealing with injuries.

With the Play-In on Tuesday, there isn’t a lot of time, either. Boston did just fine on Saturday, though, in a big win over Minnesota. Jayson Tatum led the offense with 26 points, while Evan Fournier dropped 18.

All in all, the C’s haven’t been playing great lately, though. They’re 4-6 in their last 10 games and before this victory, Boston lost four straight. Back-to-back defeats to the Heat at home were also disappointing because it was a chance for the Celtics to potentially knock Miami out of sixth place.

Defense continues to be a problem, currently ranked 17th in the league. With different rotations being rolled out on a weekly basis, it’s been tough for the core to really find a rhythm. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of time to do so at this point, but the Celtics will simply try their luck in the Play-In Tournament. Needless to say, Tatum will need to erupt.

Knicks Rolling into Postseason

One of the best stories of the campaign has been the Knicks. Tom Thibodeau’s squad has been a revelation, much in part to the All-Star play of Julius Randle. The 26-year-old is putting up career numbers across the board for New York and continues to be the focal point of the offense.

Heading into Sunday’s finale, the Knicks will finish up at MSG. They’ve played tremendous on home court this season as well, going 24-11.  The Knicks have won two consecutive games after beating the Hornets in OT on Saturday. Randle showed out once again, torching Charlotte for 33 points while grabbing 10 boards and dishing out 13 assists.

New York pulled away in the extra period, outscoring the Hornets 14-5. The Knicks had a total of five players who scored 13 or more points while shooting 43% from downtown as a team.

Despite losing by two points in April, NY destroyed Boston by 30 points in January. They’ll be looking to expose a weak C’s defense and continue their hot streak at home.

Prediction

With Boston extremely depleted, I don’t see them having enough to break down a Knicks defensive unit that is one of the best in the Association. The Celtics are also just 15-20 ATS on the road, while New York is 18-7 ATS at Madison Square Garden.

Take the Randle and co. to roll to a convincing victory here and secure fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
