Odds as of May 23rd
Ja Will Score
It’s probably time to start taking the Memphis Grizzlies a little more seriously. Can they beat the Utah Jazz in a seven-game series? Probably not. But bettors would be wise to pay attention to Grizzlies’ point guard Ja Morant in the prop market. He is playing with a confidence we haven’t seen and that should be scary for bookmakers.

Looking at his box scores to end the regular season, bettors might see a guy that hasn’t gone over 20 points in two straight games. While that’s true, he’s taken off as the leader of his team in the play-in. After scoring 20 points in a win over the Spurs, Ja erupted for 35 to seal a playoff spot against the Warriors Friday night. He finished 14-for-29 from the field, including 5-for-10 from beyond the arc.
He’s now scored 30+ in four of his last five games where he’s taken 21 or more shots — the only one the regular season finale, when he scored 16 points on 21 takes. That includes one game vs the Utah Jazz.
In fact, in his last three games against Utah, Morant has gone over 30 points twice. The theory is, Rudy Gobert has proven to be a tough matchup for Grizzlies’ big man Jonas Valanciunas, so Morant has been asked to do more on offense. That is a good bet to happen again.
- The Pick: Morant OVER 21.5 Points (-104)
Randle is a Beast
When we’re looking for player props, having guys that are on the floor is helpful. Simply put, they can’t accrue statistics from the bench. One thing about Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau: he’s not afraid to play his starters. Julius Randle led the NBA in minutes this season and he will likely be on the floor for 40 plus minutes today. He can also fill up the stat sheet while he’s out there.

Randle’s points plus rebounds prop looks to be a little low given the matchup. In three games with the Hawks this season, Randle hasn’t posted less than 45 points plus rebounds. In two of the games, he’s dropped 40 points. The safe money is on Randle stepping up in the Knick’s first playoff game since 2013.
- The Pick: Randle OVER 36.5 Points + Rebounds (-118)
