Pick #1: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Over 33.5 Points, Rebounds & Assists

Playing hard for a 3-3 record to start the season, the Thunder are three-point favorites over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night. Part of Oklahoma City being favored is down to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has started this season with a string of spectacular performances.

Gilgeous-Alexander has gone over this points, rebounds and assists line in all five of his appearances so far. He has scored 32 or more points on three occasions, and is averaging a career-high seven assists per game in the early going. With Josh Giddey out, Gilgeous-Alexander is also at a career-high in usage, placing above LeBron James, Zion Williamson and Steph Curry by that metric.

The quantity will be there for Gilgeous-Alexander to post huge numbers again. Orlando has been better than their 1-6 record suggests, but their backcourt injury crisis leaves them playing huge (albeit entertaining) line ups, which gives Gilgeous-Alexander the opportunity to go to work against slower players.

This line seems far too low considering the standards Gilgeous-Alexander has set this season.

Pick: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander over 33.5 points, rebounds and assists (-115)

Pick #2: Rudy Gobert Over 27.5 Points & Rebounds

Phoenix is favored by five points over the Timberwolves despite the absence of Deandre Ayton. Being without Ayton would have been less of an issue against the Timberwolves last season. Since the Rudy Gobert trade, however, Minnesota has a significant roll threat and a player capable of dominating on the glass.

The Suns’ rebounding rate drops 2.2 percentage points when Ayton isn’t on the court. Their defense allows 1.7 points more per 100 possessions. This is a small sample in 2022-23, but it is hardly surprising that the Suns are weaker without Ayton, even with Jock Landale starting the season well.

Gobert averages 28.8 points and rebounds per game. In the five games he’s played over 30 minutes, the Frenchman has gone over this line on three occasions. Foul trouble is unlikely against the Suns and this will be a fiercely competitive game — Gobert should get into the high-thirties in minutes, and will be a key part of the offense with Phoenix’s perimeter defense capable of making life difficult for Anthony Edwards.

At a price of -108, there’s great value backing Gobert to clock 28 or more points and rebounds on Tuesday night.

Pick: Rudy Gobert over 27.5 points and rebounds (-108)
