  • Read below for Friday’s NBA player props and best bets

Friday’s NBA action begins with four games tipping off at 7:10pm ET. The Sixers, who are without James Harden, face the Knicks. Off the back of an impressive win over Boston, Cleveland takes on Cade Cunningham and the Pistons. Following another chaotic week, the Brooklyn Nets are in the capital to face the Washington Wizards with Kyrie Irving suspended and Ben Simmons dealing with a knee issue.

Jayson Tatum and the Celtics welcome the Chicago Bulls to TD Garden, before Steph Curry’s struggling Warriors face-off with Zion Williamson and the Pelicans. Pascal Siakam, one of the star performers so far this season, matches up with Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks at 8:40pm ET prior to Devin Booker and the Suns taking on the Portland Trail Blazers.

Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo will hope to extend the Bucks’ sensational start to the season as they go toe-to-toe with the dysfunctional Minnesota Timberwolves. To round out the night, LeBron James’ Lakers look to make it three wins in a row as they face the overachieving Utah Jazz.

Pick #1: Desmond Bane Over 25.5 Points & Rebounds

Memphis has picked up where it left off last season, starting the campaign 5-3. The Grizzlies are favored by 12 against the 3-5 Charlotte Hornets on Friday night. Desmond Bane, who excelled in 2021-22, has taken his game to another level in 2022-23, improving his production across the board. Bane has scored 38, 31, 32 and 29 in his last three, and grabbed eight boards when the Grizzlies beat Portland last time out.

Charlotte is 11th in defense, but it is fair to say that is slightly misleading. According to pbpstats, the Hornets are in the bottom eight in opponent shot quality, and they have ridden some unsustainable luck with opponent three-point shooting. Opponents are making under 32% of outside shots against Charlotte thus far. Bane is one of the premier shooters in the game, and has made 46.9% of his attempts from beyond the arc this term.

The Richmond native has passed this line in points alone in four straight games, so the rebounds are added in here as an insurance policy in case his shot cools off. Charlotte is a below-average team on the glass, with only five teams conceding more boards per game.

Let’s keep rolling with Bane here – Charlotte isn’t equipped to slow down this Memphis offense.

Pick: Desmond Bane over 25.5 points and rebounds (-122)

Pick #2: Bradley Beal Over 21.5 Points

With Washington moving in the offseason to get Bradley Beal some backcourt help, the three-time All-Star has been able to be less ball dominant. His field goal attempts have dropped by almost four per game, yet he has got up 16 or more shots in his last four, and dropped 29 on the Sixers a couple of nights ago.

Brooklyn has suspended Kyrie Irving, and Ben Simmons is sidelined through a knee problem. Their defense has been calamitous even with Simmons, ranking dead-last in the NBA. Washington comes in at 4-4, and has a greater balance than in previous seasons. Deservedly, the Wizards are 2.5-point favorites.

There is no reason to expect this defense to improve. Patty Mills will get more minutes in Irving’s absence, and there are fundamental, structural issues with both the personnel and scheme. Simmons would at least have had the size to make life difficult for Beal – Royce O’Neale is far from a stopper against scorers of Beal’s caliber.

This is a game for Beal to take on a bigger offensive role and attack the weak links in Brooklyn’s defense. He has gone over this number in four of six this season when he takes 16 or more shots.

Pick: Bradley Beal over 21.5 points (-111)
