Pick #1: Cade Cunningham Over 12.5 Rebounds & Assists

Off to a 2-6 start to the 2022-23 season, the Detroit Pistons are understandably rank outsiders for their game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Detroit lost by just two when the teams faced off a couple of days ago, however, and Cade Cunningham continues to prove he can compete against the league’s elite.

The former first overall pick dropped 27, seven and six on Monday. That marked four consecutive games with at least 13 rebounds and assists — his assist rate has leapt to 35.1% from just over 29% last season, which places ninth in the Association. He’s 15th among guards in rebounding rate.

Cunningham is posting more potential assists than Ja Morant and LeBron James. His size means he will inevitably claim a few rebounds, even against a Bucks team which ranks in the top 10 in rebounding rate. Detroit has surrounded Cunningham with more shooters, which has paid dividends, as they have been able to convert his pinpoint passes into assists.

The -104 represents great value here. A blowout loss and subsequent low minutes total is the biggest threat to this over.

Pick: Cade Cunningham over 12.5 rebounds and assists (-104)

Pick # 2: CJ McCollum Over 22.5 Points

CJ McCollum averages over 19 shots per game since Brandon Ingram has been out. New Orleans is favored over the Lakers even with Ingram still sidelined. Inevitably, McCollum’s role on offense is larger without Ingram, and the pick-and-roll between the former Blazer and Zion Williamson becomes a greater part of the Pels’ offensive game plan.

The Lakers are up in third in defensive rating, but some of that can be attributed to poor shooting from their opponents. Los Angeles does not have plus defenders on the perimeter, and McCollum should be able to take advantage of that. Williamson’s gravity will open up space for McCollum to get into his mid-range game.

The Ohio native has only gone over this line once this season, but the absence of Ingram and the Lakers’ weaknesses still make the over a good bet here. McCollum is simply too good a scorer and shooter to continue being so inefficient. There were signs of life last time out with four made threes. If he continues to get into the late-teens or early-twenties in shot attempts, scoring 23 or more points is well within reach.

McCollum has the volume and long-term track record to make this a value option at -111.

Pick: CJ McCollum over 22.5 points (-111)
