  • San Antonio has dropped 10 straight and 18 of their last 20 games
  • Read below for the Spurs vs Pistons preview with odds and prediction

After a dizzying NBA Trade deadline, it’s time to get back to the business of basketball.

For the San Antonio Spurs (14-41, 5-20 away) and Detroit Pistons (14-42, 7-21 home), who face each other next, their business is losing, keeping their odds as best as possible for the top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, where Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson await.

Detroit has lost three straight and 12 of their last 15. San Antonio, meanwhile, has lost 10 straight, and 18 of their last 20.

It all gets underway Friday (Feb 10) at 7pm ET from Little Caesars Arena, in a game you can watch on NBA League Pass.

The NBA odds have the Pistons as 3-point home favorites, just the third time all season they’ve been a betting favorite at home. They’re a dismal 7-21 at Little Caesars, tied for the fewest home wins in the NBA.

San Antonio is in the midst of their annual rodeo road trip, and they’ve been blasted in the first two of this 9-game odyssey. At 5-20, the Spurs share the dubious distinction of fewest road wins in the league.

San Antonio Betting Analysis

The Spurs were part of the deadline madness, dealing starting center Jakob Poeltl to the Toronto Raptors for Khem Birch, a protected first-round pick and a pair of 2nd-round picks.

They also moved wing Josh Richardson to the New Orleans Pelicans for Devonte’ Graham and a slew of 2nd-round draft picks.

Graham can be a resurrection project, as this season is about the Spurs finding out what they have as they tear it down to the studs.

They were crushed 112-98 in Toronto last time out, with turnovers a main factor doing them in. San Antonio’s 16 turnovers were converted into 22 Raptors points. They are 27th in points off turnovers against, surrendering 18.8 points per night.

Keldon Johnson was the lone bright spot, dropping 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists. However, he’s on the injury report (ankle), joining Romeo Langford (thigh), Tre Jones (foot) and Jeremy Sochan (back) as players questionable for Friday.

Detroit Betting Analysis

The Pistons made one trade on Thursday, but it is one of the most tantalizing. Detroit was one of four teams involved in a multi-player trade, surrendering Saddiq Bey and Kevin Knox, netting them Warriors’ big man James Wiseman.

Wiseman, the second overall pick in the 2020 draft, has been a disappointment in the Bay. He’s battled injuries and inconsistency, and could never work his way into the GState rotation.

In Detroit, he’ll get to work in relative anonymity and get his career cooking — there’s no denying the talent is there.

The Pistons can use all the help they can get, as it’s been a struggle. They were crushed in their latest outing, a 113-85 drubbing at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Detroit has lost their last three by double digits, and have scored 100 or less in each.

Bojan Bogdanovic was the leading scorer with 15 points and three rebounds, while Jalen Duren had 14 points and nine boards.

Spurs vs Pistons Betting Prediction

These are the two worst defensive teams in the league: the Spurs surrender an NBA-worst 122.4 points per game, with Detroit right behind them at 119.6. The Spurs are next level here, dead last in both field goal (51.1%)  and 3-point shooting defense (40%).

San Antonio has been great to bet against lately, as they’re 0-9 against the spread in their last nine, and they’re 9-16 ATS on the road this year.

Detroit is 10-16-1 ATS at home, the fourth-worst betting mark in the league. Head-to-head, Detroit is just 1-5 ATS in their last six against the Spurs.

It’s a hard one to pick as these look like a pair of patchwork clubs, and two of the lowest-scoring teams in the NBA. Detroit is averaging 111.8 points (26th) and San Antonio 112.3 (23rd). Let’s veer from the spread and take the under.

Pick:

  • UNDER 235 points (-110); 1.5 units to win 1.31 units
  • NBA Betting Record: 25-26-1 ATS, 1-1 ML, 5-6 o/u, 0-2 parlays; -8.87 units
