Phoenix Suns Betting Analysis

Phoenix has dominated Eastern Conference opponents this season. Phoenix, playing the third game of a four-game stretch featuring East opponents, holds a record of 12-2 against teams in the East following another win on Friday. The Suns are also in the middle of a five-game road trip, carrying a league-best record of 15-4 away from home.

One key for Phoenix has been its second-half performance and being able to step on the gas late in games. The Suns are averaging 56.2 points per game in the second half, which ranks third-best in the NBA. They are also shooting 47.5 percent (fifth-best) with a plus/minus of plus-3.2 in the final two quarters. That type of performance was on display yet again on Friday in Indianapolis, with Phoenix outscoring Indiana 66-56 in the second half to extend an 8-point halftime lead into an 18-point victory.

The Suns will once again rely on the strong play of Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton against Detroit, a duo which has been playing well as of late and most recently combined for 62 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists on Friday.

Detroit Pistons Betting Analysis

Detroit hasn’t had much going for it this year and its record directly reflects that so far. The Pistons hold the worst offensive rating in the NBA (101.8), while ranking 22nd in the league in defensive rating (111.3). That will have to improve if they want to pull off an upset on Sunday, with the Suns carrying the seventh-best offensive rating (111.9) and second-best defensive rating (104.6).

Specifically on offense, Detroit is averaging just 101.3 points per game, the second-lowest mark in the NBA. The Pistons are also shooting just 41.6 percent from the field (worst in NBA) and 31.3 percent from three (second-worst in NBA), while recording a plus/mins of minus-9.4 (worst in NBA).

Although Detroit’s offense improved a bit in Friday’s win over Toronto, mainly due to the 46 points from its bench and 52 points in the paint, the offense is going to have to put together a strong showing against one of the top offenses and defenses in the league on the side of Phoenix.

The Pistons will also hope to carry recent success on defense on Sunday, trying to mirror how they performed in their last game against the Raptors, who they held to 32.2 percent shooting from the field.

Suns vs Pistons Best Bet

This game initially appears to be a one-sided contest. The Suns’ talent will be too much for the Pistons to handle even while playing at home.

For the best bet of the night, go with the Suns -12.5. Although the 12.5 points is a large margin, Phoenix should be able to win this game easily and cover the spread. This season, the Suns are 22-19 against the spread and are 11-8 ATS on the road.

Pick: Suns -12.5 (-110)
