  • The Trail Blazers are 2-6 SU and ATS in their last eight road games facing the Cavaliers
  • Below, see the Blazers vs Cavaliers odds and predictions

What was once a series dominated by the Portland Trail Blazers (10-7, 12-5 ATS) is turning steadily toward the Cleveland Cavaliers (11-6, 10-6-1 ATS). Cleveland went 2-0 straight and against the spread last season against Portland. Prior to that, the Trail Blazers had won five of six, six of eight and seven of 10 games from the Cavaliers.

Oddsmakers are also swinging the pendulum in Cleveland’s favor. It’s the Cavaliers who are 8.5-point home favorites as these two clubs meet for the first time during the 2022-23 NBA season. This is the second straight game in which Cleveland is favored. Portland was the chalk in each of the seven games prior to that.

Portland Trail Blazers Betting Trends

The Trail Blazers have lost three in a row, enduring the club’s first legitimate losing streak of the NBA season. Portland has quickly sunk from #1 to #8 in the Western Conference standings.

Point guard Damien Lillard, who’s leading the team with 26.3 points per game, has missed six of the past 12 games. He’ll be out at least 1-2 weeks with a grade one strain to the soleus muscle in the right lower leg.

Minus Lillard, others must step up to keep Portland in the playoff hunt. Shooting guard Anfernee Simons is hitting 36.7% from beyond the arc. He’s draining 3.9 made 3-pointers per game for the Trail Blazers. Simons is also averaging 22.9 points and 4.1 assists. Over the past 10 games, power forward Jerami Grant is averaging 18.5 points.

The Trail Blazers are also without point guard Gary Payton II (core) and shooting guard Keon Johnson (hip).

Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Trends

It’s been the Donovan Mitchell show in Cleveland. The all-star point guard, like Lillard a top-10 contender in the NBA MVP odds, Mitchell is  scoring 29.8 PPG. That’s good for eighth in the NBA.

Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen is averaging a double-double with 13.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. He’s grabbed at least 11 boards in four of Cleveland’s last five games.

After opening the season 8-1 SU, Cleveland has gone 3-6. The Cavaliers are 2-0-1 ATS over the past three games. At home they are 6-1-1 ATS.

Shooting guard Caris Levert (ankle) will miss his second straight game. Power forward Kevin Love is questionable with a hairline fracture in his thumb. Power forward Dean Wade (knee) is probable.

Trail Blazers vs Cavaliers Prediction

Both teams come into this game 5-5 SU over their past 10 games. Third in the Eastern Conference, Cleveland is 7-1 SU at home this season, while Portland is 6-3 SU on the road.

Without Lillard, or with him at less than 100%, the Trail Blazers are hanging tough with the opposition. Portland is 1-3 ATS over the past four games. However, the Trail Blazers are 8-1 ATS on the road this season.

Cleveland is just 1-6 ATS in the past seven games against Western Conference opponents. The Cavaliers should win this game, but play the Trail Blazers to cover.

Pick: Portland Trail Blazers +8.5 (-110)
