Online sportsbooks are expecting an extremely close battle in the college basketball odds. Early big money bettors are backing the underdog.

Alabama vs Texas A&M Betting Trends

A quick look at the March Madness bracket reveals that both of these teams project as top-five seeds. Alabama is penciled in as number one seed, and currently boasts the third shortest price in the NCAA Tournament odds.

The Crimson Tide clinched the SEC regular season title last time out, erasing a big deficit versus Auburn to seal the deal. Alabama battled its way back from 17 points down, knocking off one of its biggest rivals for the second time in three weeks.

Alabama has steam rolled through the conference. They’ve won 16 of 17 games, and have locked up the top seed for the SEC Tournament. That leaves them with nothing to play for on Saturday, which could open the door for an Aggies upset.

Texas A&M is no stranger to pulling off those, as they enter play with a 3-0 record versus ranked opposition. They’re two games removed from taking down #12 Tennessee, the same Vols program that handed the Crimson Tide their only conference loss this season.

The Aggies are not in the same offensive class as Alabama, but they more than make up for it on defense. Texas A&M ranks second in the SEC in scoring defense, and third in opponent field goal percentage. They also check in at number two in total rebounding, while ranking 51st in the nation takeaway percentage.

The combination of crashing the offensive glass and forcing turnovers helps generate a bevy of extra possessions for A&M. That helps pad their offensive stats. They’re also the best free throw shooting team in the country, another trait of veteran laden teams.

Six of their top-eight rotational players are upperclassmen and the experience and solid fundamentals they boast make them a dangerous opponent.

Alabama vs Texas A&M Predictions

That’s been on display over the last month, as the Aggies are one of just 11 high-major teams with one loss or less. They’ll be on a mission to prove they belong with the Crimson Tide. And don’t count out the effect home court advantage will have for A&M.

The Aggies record in College Station is fantastic, and we can expect a raucous atmosphere on Saturday. Fans have been camping out since early Friday in anticipation of this massive tilt. Texas A&M is 11-4 ATS as home favorites this season, and have covered in seven of their past eight overall.

Alabama meanwhile, is in a prime let down spot. They’ve already accomplished all they need to do in the regular season, and there’s no incentive for them to extend their top players minutes with so much still left to play for in the postseason.

The Crimson Tide have also been far from a dominant team lately, failing to cover the spread in three straight, and four of their last five outings. They’re falling short of the number by an average of 7.5 points in those defeats, and have failed to cover the spread in four consecutive road tilts.

Pick: Texas A&M Moneyline (-105)
