Razorbacks Playing Their Best Ball

The Razorbacks return to action following a sensational week that featured impressive victories over Alabama and LSU. The club marched to a decisive 81-66 win over the conference-leading Crimson Tide as 2-point home chalk, and followed up with an 83-75 win over LSU. With those victories, Arkansas is now poised to clinch second place in the conference standings, and the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament, with a win over South Carolina on Tuesday.

Arkansas has simply gotten better with each passing game in conference play. Overall, the Razorbacks have posted SU wins in nine of 10 outings, covering the spread in eight of those contests. Despite that steady success, they have struggled to dominate at times on the road. The Razorbacks came up short in an 81-77 road loss to Oklahoma State in late January before eking out narrow wins as slim underdogs in recent visits to Kentucky and No. 10 Missouri that mark the team’s first consecutive road victories in two years.

However, the Razorbacks were steady in two outings this season as road favorites, claiming decisive wins by double-digit margins over Vanderbilt and Auburn. Arkansas has also been getting steady offensive contributions from across the lineup. At least four Razorbacks have tallied double-digit point totals in each of the team’s past four contests, with Justin Smith leading the attack. The senior big man has averaged 16 points per game over his past four outings, and recorded double-doubles in each of the past two outings.

Gamecocks Aim to Close Season with Pride

While the Razorbacks reach heights they have not seen in two decades, South Carolina enters Tuesday night’s contest playing for pride. The Gamecocks have recorded wins in just four of 14 conference games this season. Two of those wins have come against Georgia, capped by Saturday’s 91-70 rout of the woeful Bulldogs. With the win, the Gamecocks snapped a six-game losing streak, but there is very little for USC fans to get excited about entering the final week of the regular season.

South Carolina has been simply terrible on home hardwood, losing outright in five of their past six contests, with those defeats coming by average margin of 12.8 points. The Gamecocks have also wilted in recent dates with nationally ranked opponents, going 1-5 this season, while averaging just 73 points per game in those contests.

AJ Lawson’s recent dip in production has not helped matters. The team’s leading scorer has averaged just 10.5 points over his past two outings after topping 20 points in seven of his previous nine appearances. However, junior forward Keyshawn Bryant has picked up the slack in the meantime, averaging over 15 points in his past four games.

The Gamecocks also ride a two-game win streak against the Razorbacks, with each of those victories coming as betting underdogs. But with Arkansas now playing its best basketball of the season, and setting its sights on a conference title, it is tough to see South Carolina keeping pace on Tuesday night.

The Picks: Razorbacks -7.5 (-110); OVER 155 (-110)
