The Army Knights and Navy Midshipmen will meet for the second time this weekend at Navy on Sunday afternoon (3pm ET).

Navy is currently in the driver’s seat of the Patriot League as they are still undefeated in conference play. The Midshipmen took advantage of the Knights on the boards out rebounding them 39-26 on Saturday. Army is currently holding down fourth place in the Patriot League and is in a must win situation if they have any hopes of winning the conference.

The Knights have taken three of the last five in the series but Navy won the last meeting yesterday 69-62. The current odds are showing Navy as 1.5-point favorites in this matchup.

Army Needs This Game

If Army wants to win the Patriot League, then winning this game will go a long way in accomplishing that goal. It’s still early but they will only play Navy two more times, and both games are at home. Navy has yet to lose at home this season but Army has shown they are more than capable of winning on the road. The Knights are 4-2 on the road this season and had won their last four before losing at Navy on Saturday.

The Knights came out sluggish on offense Saturday and never fully recovered. They were lucky to only be down four points at the half as they were outplayed on the glass from the opening tip. One bright spot for Army was guard Lonnie Grayson, who poured in 18 points while pulling down eight rebounds.

Navy Is On Fire

Navy has now won nine straight games with their last loss coming on November 27th to the Maryland Terrapins. Their run has been somewhat unpredictable being that they don’t rank in the top 140 in offensive or defensive efficiency on the season. Instead, they play a grind-it-out style that can lead to production from anyone on the roster. Saturday it was Greg Summers that led the way over Army.

Summers played more than 30 minutes in a game for the second time this season. The first time was Navy’s previous game versus American when Summers dropped a season-high 21 points in 30 minutes. This time around Summers played 37 minutes ,which led to 17 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. He is definitely someone to keep an eye on in Sunday’s rematch with Army.

Best Betting Angle

In Saturday’s game Army struggled from beyond the arc in a way they haven’t all season. On the year they shoot 35.5% from behind the three-point line on the road. Saturday, they were under 25% for most of the game. That could change on Sunday.

Navy has not shown the ability to guard the three-point line all season, especially at home where they allow opponents to shoot 37.1%. On top of that, they haven’t played a tough schedule to this point in the season. According to Kenpom, their adjusted strength of schedule ranks 300 out of 357 teams.

In the game Saturday, the Knights were simply missing open shots that they normally make. They took 58 shots and only scored 62 points. To put that into perspective, they took 54 shots in their previous game and scored 76 points. Navy should not have many issues scoring on Army’s defense like they did on Saturday, so if the Knights can just shoot even a little better, this game will fly over the total.

Pick: Over 130.5
