They say that all good things must come to an end. That will be the case on Saturday (November 27th) as one of either BYU or Utah will see its perfect season ruined.

The two undefeated programs will square off in Utah, and it’s the #18 Cougars who are the short road chalk.

BYU opened up as a 1-point favorite, in a game that features a total of 137. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:30 pm ET at the Jon M. Huntsman Center, in Salt Lake City, Utah a venue where the Utes have posted a 3-0 record so far.

BYU Cougars Betting Analysis

The Cougars enter play with a 5-0 record, and a resume that includes a blowout win over Oregon, ranked 12th at the time, and a victory over San Diego State, another top-40 program.

Four of their five victories so far have been by double-digits, including last time out versus Texas Southern. BYU cruised to an 81-64 win over the Tigers, led by Te’Jon Lucas’ 18 points. The senior guard added 7 assists, and didn’t commit a turnover for the first time all season.

Fousseyni Traore splashed 12, while Gideon George added 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds helping the Cougars improve to 12-0 all-time versus SWAC programs.

BYU absolutely dominated down low, racking up a 52-38 rebounding advantage, and scoring 20 second chance points. The impressive play in the paint helped overcome a poor 39% shooting performance, but offense isn’t BYU’s calling card.

The Cougars rank 98th in points per game, 129th in effective field goal percentage, and 278th in three-point efficiency. They’re a much stronger team in their own end, and that defensive prowess was on full display against Texas Southern.

BYU held the Tigers to 39% from the field, and 17.6% from beyond the arc. The Cougars boast the nation’s 23rd best scoring defense, and rank 10th in opponent effective field goal percentage.

Utah Utes Betting Analysis

Utah is also 5-0, but unlike BYU, has yet to face a team ranked inside the top-130. Not surprisingly, they’ve racked up plenty of easy wins, claiming victory by at least 14 points in four of five outings.

Last time out, they ran over Tulsa 72-58, led by the 15 points and 13 rebounds of Branden Carlson. David Jenkins Jr added 13, while three other Utes also reached double-figures.

After a slow start out of the gate versus the Golden Hurricane, Utah caught fire in the second half knocking down 50% of its attempts. They outrebounded Tulsa by 16, while holding them 40% from the field, and their lowest point total of the season.

Much like the Cougars, the Utes’ strength lies at the defensive end. Utah ranks 70th in points per game, and 131st in effective field goal percentage, but allow the 16th fewest points in the nation, and hold enemy shooters to 36.6% from the field.

BYU vs Utah Pick

It shouldn’t come as a surprise given both team’s success on defense, that the majority of each of their game’s have stayed under the total.

The under is 3-2 in Utah contests, but has hit in each of the Utes’ three toughest games to date. The Cougars meanwhile, have been an under machine so far. Three of their four games that had odds posted came in under the total, and they’ve held all five opponents to 64 points or less.

With neither team excelling on offense, and neither possessing a first class scoring option, I like this game to underwhelm offensively. Bet the under.

Pick: Under 137 (-110)
