Georgia Tech vs Florida State Betting Analysis

Neither one of these teams are expected to contend for a spot in the NCAA Tournament bracket, although if one is going to make a Cinderella type run, the numbers suggest it will be the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech closed the season with a three-game winning streak and have won five of six overall. That stretch includes victories over three teams ranked higher than them in the conference standings, and they grade out better per KenPom’s overall efficiency ranking (164 vs 212).

The Yellow Jackets and Seminoles each averaged 69.6 points per contest in ACC play, but Georgia Tech was much better at the defensive end. They allowed six points fewer than Florida State per outing, and have held three of their past five opponents below 68 points.

They flashed an offensive ceiling as well down the stretch, averaging 79 points over their final six games. The Yellow Jackets did drop their only meeting versus the Seminoles this season, but that was in the midst of a nine-game losing streak. Since then they’ve been playing extremely well, while Florida State has gone the other way.

The Seminoles have just four wins since beating Georgia Tech on January 7th. They’ve dropped six of seven overall, and nine of their past 11. It’s not just that they’re losing, it’s how they’ve been losing.

Five of their past nine defeats have been by double-figures. They have a minus-33 point differential over their past two games, losing most recently to Virginia Tech by 22, a team the Yellow jackets just beat.

The problem for Florida State starts at the defensive end. They’ve allowed at least 75 points in 11 straight games, yielding 80 or more in four of their past six. They rank last in the conference in points against, while no team in the ACC is worse at defending the three.

Georgia Tech vs Florida State Predictions

That spells trouble versus the Yellow Jackets, who’ve been red-hot from long range recently. Georgia Tech has shot 38% or better from three in five of their last six conference games, eclipsing the 41% mark in four of those outings.

The three-point barrage has been led by Miles Kelly, who’s shooting 48% from three over his last four starts, while averaging 25 points per game.

That’s helped them become an ATS darling and we shouldn’t expect that to change on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets have covered in eight straight outings. They have an average cover margin of 11.5 points during that stretch, winning outright as an underdog five times. They covered the lone time they were favorites during this run, and should be able to do so again versus Florida State given their form.

The Seminoles are 1-8 against the spread in their last nine outings. They’ve covered in just 38.7% of their contests this season, and are 8-13 ATS as underdogs.

2022-23 was been a lost season for Florida State, as they’ve amassed a losing overall record for the first time since 2004-05. It’s only fitting that they’re one and done in the ACC Tournament.

Pick: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets -0.5 (-108)
