College basketball fans will be treated to a little afternoon delight when the Illinois Chicago Flames make a house call to the IUPUI Jaguars on Friday (Feb. 12th, 1pm ET).

Chicago Illinois has dominated this series, winning six of the last seven meetings and covering in all but one of those wins. The current odds are showing Chicago Illinois as a one-point favorite in this matchup.

Illinois Chicago vs IUPUI Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Illinois Chicago Flames -1 (-110) -120 Over 141 (-110)
IUPUI Jaguars +1 (-110) +100 Under 141 (-110)

Odds as of Feb 10th at FanDuel

The Flames were absolutely boat raced 77-57 in their last game against Wright State on Saturday. The loss was their fifth straight and their season has completely slipped away at this point.

Things are looking a little better for IUPUI as they’ve split their last two series. They took a loss to Green Bay in their last game 79-72 but did well to make it respectable after going down more than 20 points in the first half.

Illinois Chicago Needs To Stop Bleeding

The Flames are not as bad as their recent run makes them appear. In their last two games, they were matched up against a Wright State team that is just built to beat a team like Illinois Chicago. The Flames like to shoot the three-ball and Wright State is 21st in the nation in opponent three-point percentage.

The three-point discrepancy was only the tip of the iceberg, as Wright State is also sixth in the country in total rebounding percentage. Illinois Chicago checks in at 219th in the metric which compounded their problems. The Raiders out rebounded the Flames 82-53 over the weekend and held them to 7-39 behind the arc, all but putting the nail in the Illinois Chicago coffin.

IUPUI Turning A Corner

The Jaguars are not exactly controlling the Horizon Conference but they have turned a corner after starting the season 1-4. Last weekend they had a shot at sweeping Green Bay-Wisconsin in their own building. They ultimately fell short but not after coming back from a 23-point deficit to put a little heat on the Phoenix.

The second game of the weekend with Green Bay-Wisconsin could not have started any worse for the Jaguars. They got slaughtered 41-18 in the first half, unable to get anything going offensively. Just like the first game, they controlled the second half but the hole they dug themselves was to too deep. Jaylen Minnet led the way for IUPUI in scoring with 21 points in the losing effort.

Best Betting Angle

It’s safe to assume there won’t be offensive fireworks in this game, given where these teams rank in offensive efficiency. According to KenPom, the Flames are 311th best of 357 teams and the Jaguars are not much better checking in at 266. Despite the rankings, there still is a path to points for each team in this game.

Pace looks like it will be a factor as both teams don’t like to sit on the ball. IUPUI is 58th in the nation in possessions per 40 minutes (adjusted for opponent) and Illinois Chicago is 155th. As bad as the Flames’ offense is, the extra possessions against the 283rd ranked Jaguars’ defense will obviously help.

Illinois Chicago is not horrible defensively but one glaring issue is their personal fouls per possession. At 27.5%, they rank 315 in the country. This has led to them putting opponents on the free throw line more than 325 other teams. If IUPUI can do something with the extra attempts, then this game certainly has a chance to soar over the low posted total for this game.

The pick: Over 141 (-110)
