Illinois vs Indiana Picks and Odds

Coming off its most impressive win of the season, Illinois visits Indiana at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday in a Big Ten game at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington.

Illinois, ranked #12 this week, knocked off then-#7 Iowa 80-75 last Friday at home as a three-point favorite to improve to 11-5 overall and 7-3 in the Big Ten. The Fighting Illini have won back-to-back games and six of their last eight and are favored to win again.

Indiana (9-7, 4-5) has alternated losses and wins in its last five games. The Hoosiers, though, have been the winning side against the spread in four of their last six games.

Guards Fuel Illinois Win

The backcourt duo of junior Ayo Dosunmu and senior Trent Frazier led the way for Illinois against Iowa. Dosunmu had 25 points and Frazier finished with 24 as the Fighting Illini notched just their second win over a ranked team this season.

The Illini take down 7th ranked Iowa, 80-75.

For Dosunmu, it was business as usual. He is averaging 21.9 points a game and has scored at least 20 points in three of the last four games and 10 games overall this season.

However, for Frazier, it was a season high in points and his biggest total since the 2018-19 season.

Dosunmu is also averaging 6.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists a game and is rated as the nation’s fifth-best player by KenPom.com. Dosunmu has been responsible for 29.7% of Illinois’ possessions and 32.2% of its shots.

Junior wing Jacob Grandison had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The only other time the transfer from Holy Cross scored in double figures this season is when he had 10 points in the opening-night win over North Carolina A&T.

Grandison can also make animal noises.

Sophomore center Kofi Cockburn had nine points and 11 rebounds while making two free throws with two seconds left that sealed the victory. It was just fourth time in 16 games this season that he did not have a double-double.

Cockburn has averages of 16.9 points and 10.3 rebounds. He is making 68.2% of his field goal attempts.

Indiana Stuck in Neutral

Indiana will be playing for the first time since Jan. 24 when it lost to Rutgers 74-70 at home as a 5.5-point favorite.

The loss dropped the Hoosiers to an ordinary 4-3 at home this season. Furthermore, they have seemingly been stuck in neutral all season, yet to win or lose more than two games in a row.

The loss came after Indiana knocked off Iowa in Iowa City.

Sophomore guard Armaan Franklin led Indiana with 14 points, 12 coming in the second half. However, he sustained an ankle injury late in the game and his status is questionable for Tuesday’s game.

Franklin is Indiana’s second-leading scorer as he is averaging 12.8 points a game.

Sophomore Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 13 points but had one of his worst games of the season as he made just four of 10 field goal attempts. Ranked as the nation’s fourth-best player by KenPom.com, Jackson-Davis is averaging 20.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.8 blocked shots while drawing 7.7 fouls per 40 minutes.

Junior forward Race Thompson finished with 11 points.

Indiana fell behind by 14 points early in the second half and never caught up.

Freshman guard Trey Galloway also sat out the game with a back injury and is likely to miss a third straight game against Illinois.

Illini Won First Meeting

The teams also met Dec. 26 and Illinois notched a 69-60 home victory as a 6.5-point favorite.

Dosunmu had 30 points and five assists while Cockburn added 15 points and 15 rebounds. In a losing cause, Franklin scored a career-high 23 points. Jackson-Davis was held to 11 points.

Illinois is one of the most-talented teams in the country, even if its record does not necessarily show it. Look for the Fighting Illini to carry its momentum from the win over Iowa at home on to the road.
