The Sweet 16 round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament gets underway at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana,  when the Loyola Chicago Ramblers take on the Oregon State Beavers (2:40 pm ET).

The Ramblers took out the number one seed in the tournament, Illinois Fighting Illini, 71-58 in their last game. Meanwhile the Beavers took out the four-seeded Oklahoma State Cowboys 80-70 in their most recent action..

These two schools have not met since the 1928-29 season when the Ramblers defeated Beavers 29-19. The latest odds are showing the Loyola Chicago is favored by seven points in this matchup and there are more than enough props to consider.

Look Out Below

One way to attack Loyola Chicago is from behind the three-point line. Neither of the Ramblers’ opponents in the first two rounds utilized the strategy as Georgia Tech and Illinois combined for only 24 attempts from three-point land in their games with Loyola Chicago. That could change in this matchup as the Oregon State hasn’t taken less than 20 in either of their two games.

The slow pace will certainly affect the number of three-point attempts but even against Tennessee, which also plays slow, the Beavers still had over 20 looks. The best part for bettors is that almost half of those looks came from one source: Jarod Lucas.

In his last five games, Lucas has averaged eight attempts per game and has hit at least three of those attempts in three of those games. Loyola Chicago was barely in the top 100 in opponent three-point shooting so they are a ripe target for Lucas.

The Pick: Jared Lucas Over 2.5 Three Pointers Made (+140)

Oregon State Scores Early

It seems crazy to bet an over against the second best defense in the entire country. It’s even crazier when we consider the fact that this great defense also plays at the one of the slowest paces in college basketball.

But even with those circumstances, betting is about numbers, not teams. With that in mind, bettors have a great number on Saturday with the Oregon State Beavers.

First-half team totals can offer value since a lot of the slow-paced, elite defensive teams tend to not use the entire shot clock in the first half of games. They may tighten up in the second half which causes their games to be low scoring.

Bettors can get a discount on first-half over plays since they are a formula of the entire game total.

In Oregon State’s last four games, they haven’t scored fewer than 33 in the first half. One of those games was against the Tennessee Volunteers, who own the fourth-best defense in the country. The Beavers can score on anyone.

Loyola Chicago will be the toughest test yet for Oregon State but the Beavers have an incredibly low bar to hurdle. Although neither one of the Ramblers’ opponents so far have gone over 27 points in the first half, both were within a bucket. It’s hard to imagine Oregon State not at least approaching 30 points in the first half which makes their team total of 27 and auto play.

The Pick: Oregon State Team Total Over 27 -First Half- (-110)
