Two teams in need of a win to keep their lessening hopes of an ACC regular-season title alive meet when North Carolina visits Wake Forest at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C.

North Carolina (15-8, 2-5 road, 7-5 ACC) has lost two games in a row following a four-game winning streak, including dropping a 63-57 decision at Duke on Saturday. Wake Forest (15-9, 10-2, 7-6 ACC) ended a four-game losing streak by beating Notre Dame 81-64 on the road.

North Carolina is two games behind first-place Clemson in the loss column in the conference standings and Wake Forest is three games back.

North Carolina Betting Trends

North Carolina had an awful shooting night in the loss to Duke on Saturday.

The Tar Heels made just 34.3% (24 of 70) of their field goal attempts, their second-lowest mark of the season. They were 7 of 27 (25.9%) on three-pointers.

The game was tied 57-all with 3:57 left. However, North Carolina missed its last five shots while Duke scored the final six points.

The Tar Heels also had 11 shots blocked, their most in eight years.

Senior forward Armando Bacot led North Carolina with 14 points and 10 rebounds. It was his 63rd career double-double, 14th this season and fifth in the last six games.

Bacot, who has +15000 Wooden Award odds, is averaging 17.5 points and 11.3 rebounds a game. He leads the ACC in rebounding, is third in scoring and his 56.3 field goal percentage stands fourth.

Senior forward Leaky Black notched his first double-double of 2022-23 with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Caleb Love added 12 points and four assists and junior guard RJ Davis finished with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.

North Carolina held Duke to 39.3% (24 of 61) shooting and kept the turnovers down with seven. However, the Tar Heels attempted just three free throws.

Love is averaging 16.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Davis has averages of 15.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

Wake Forest Betting Trends

Wake Forest, meanwhile, had a good shooting day Saturday to win at Notre Dame.

The Demon Deacons drained 52.7% (29 of 55) of their shots and were 14 of 30 (46.7%) from long distance. They went 11 of 19 on threes in the second half while turning a 27-26 halftime lead into a comfortable victory.

Wake Forest won by 17 points despite scoring just four points in the game’s first 10 minutes.

Junior guard Damari Monsanto had a career-high 28 points to lead the way. He was 9 of 15 from the floor, including 8 of 13 from three-point range.

The eight trifectas were a career-high for Monsanto, who is averaging 13.7 points a game. He has scored at least 20 points in two of the last three games and seven times this season.

Senior guard Tyree Appleby has been outstanding after transferring from Florida. He has averages of 18.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals. Appleby is first in the conference in assists and second in steals.

Against Notre Dame, he flirted with a triple-double as he finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Freshman Bobi Klintman scored 10 points off the bench for Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons held Notre Dame to 38.0% (27 of 71) shooting overall and 19.0% (4 of 21) on three balls.

Sophomore guard Cameron Hildreth is averaging 12.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists. A transfer from Delaware, junior forward Andrew Carr is scoring 11.6 points and pulling down 6.4 rebounds a game.

North Carolina vs Wake Forest Prediction

North Carolina has won three out of the last four in the series as well as nine of 11 and 13 of 16. The Tar Heels beat the Deacon Demons 88-79 on Jan. 4 at home behind Davis’ 27 points.

Look for Wake Forest to turn the tables this time against inconsistent North Carolina.
