Fighting Irish vs Bison Betting Trends

Monday afternoon’s matchup marks the first meeting between these two teams since November 2019, and the Fighting Irish’s first-ever visit to a Historically Black College or University. The Irish dominated in their lone previous meeting, narrowly covering as 28.5-point chalk in a 79-50 win. That clash also produced a victory for sports bettors taking the UNDER.

Notre Dame has also emerged as an increasingly reliable bet as this season has progressed. The Fighting Irish opened their schedule on a 1-6 ATS run, but have covered in six of nine since, including each of their past four. The team was also regularly padding the win column prior to Saturday’s 79-73 road loss to Virginia Tech, claiming victory in seven of their previous eight. The Bison are coming off a 77-74 loss to Norfolk State, snapping a two-game surge on home court, and have picked up the win in just three of their past 10 overall.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Outlook

The Fighting Irish enjoyed another fast start in Saturday’s date with the Hokies but squandered a double-digit lead in the second half on the way to their third loss in five road contests. Notre Dame has consistently built up early leads during its 7-1 SU run, but has struggled to keep pace at times after recess. That’s particularly true in their past two outings, in which they surrendered on average more than 40 second-half points.

But when things go well for the Irish, they go really well. They are 6-1 SU when an Irish player scores 20 or more, and are undefeated SU in the 21st century as double-digit road chalk while covering in three of their past four.

Paul Atkinson Jr. matched a season-high with 19 points in Saturday’s loss. The senior big man added nine rebounds, leaving him just short of his third double-double of the season. Dane Goodwin continues to lead the Notre Dame attack. The junior guard has topped 20 points in two of his past six outings and leads the squad with 15.9 points per game.

Howard Bison Outlook

The Bison jumped out to a slow start and saw a valiant second-half comeback attempt fall just short in their return to action on Saturday following a lengthy 24-day layoff. The loss to the Spartans marked the Bison’s second defeat in three home dates with Division I opponents and their seventh loss in their past 10 overall contests. The team has also gone 1-5 SU in their past six when surrendering 70 or more points.

One positive for Howard has been the team’s performance when pegged as double-digit underdogs. The Bison marched to a stunning 76-64 win over Bradley as 12.5-point underdogs back on November 13, and have also covered in four of their past six as big dogs.

The Bison have also been enjoying steady production from Kyle Foster. The senior guard led the team with 22 points and nine boards in Saturday’s loss and has averaged 80.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game over his past four outings.

Fighting Irish vs Bison Prediction

Both these teams are wrapping up busy weeks, and are on the rebound following Saturday losses. The Bison will be highly motivated to give the Irish a rude welcome in their first-ever HBCU road contests. However, they face a mismatch against a Notre Dame squad that was playing their best ball of the season prior to Saturday’s defeat.

The Pick: Fighting Irish -11 (-110)
