Ohio State Recent Results

After a home loss to Iowa on Feb. 19, the Buckeyes recovered with victories over Indiana and Illinois last week, with EJ Liddell and Malaki Branham leading the way.

Branham had 27 points in an 80-69 overtime victory over Indiana, and Liddell added 16. Branham fed Liddell for the game-tying dunk with six seconds remaining in regulation, and Branham’s jumper made it 74-69 with 1:07 left in overtime.

Against Illinois, Branham had 31 points and Liddell, questionable before the game because of the flu, had 21 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots. Forward Kyle Young, who has become a third scoring option, had 18 points and seven rebounds.

The wins pulled the Buckeyes within one game in the loss column of the Big Ten lead and gave them a leg up on taking one of the top four seeds in the Big Ten tournament. The top four seeds get a double-bye.

Buckeyes Led by Malaki Branham

Since a  breakout 35-point game against Nebraska on Jan. 2, Ohio State 6-foot-5 freshman guard Malaki Banham has become a quality go-to option on offense alongside forward Eric Liddell.

Branham had 31 points in the 86-83 victory at Illinois on Thursday and has scored at least 22 points in the last three games while showing a strong shooting touch. He is averaging 16.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in his last 15 games while shooting 53.9% from the floor.

Branham is 28_of-40 (70%) from the field and 21-of-23 (91.3%) from the foul line in the last three games. He did not commit a turnover against Illinois and has 12 turnovers in the last 12 games.

Maryland Betting Outlook

Maryland’s two-game winning streak was broken in a 74-64 loss at Indiana on Feb. 24, three days after Ohio State beat the Hoosiers, but the Terrapins’ return home should have the crowd pumped.

Maryland will today honor the 2002 NCAA championship team, which beat Wisconsin, Kentucky, Connecticut, Kansas and Indiana en route to the title.

These Terps have been through two coaches and have beaten only two teams in the Big Ten first division. Their three league wins are against Penn State., Nebraska and Northwestern.

Graduate transfer Fatts Russell had 23 points against Indiana and is two points short of 2,000, although 1,594 of them came in four seasons at Rhode Island. Russell (14.4 points) is averaging 21.6 points 4.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.0 steals in his last five games.
