  • UNC Greensboro is laying 2.5 points in the Stephen F Austin vs UNC Greensboro odds on Sunday at the Northern Classic
  • The Lumberjacks enter play having dropped three of their past four games
  • The latest Stephen F Austin vs UNC Greensboro odds and predictions are listed below

For most of us, Sundays are reserved for betting football. However, the NFL slate doesn’t kick off until 1 pm ET. There’s this little tournament called the World Cup going on all morning, but if soccer doesn’t get your adrenaline pumping, how about getting a sweat from some early college hoops?

Stephen F Austin (3-3) and UNC Greensboro (3-3) tip off at 11 am ET at the Northern Classic, and while the game lacks a high-profile National Championship odds contender, it does amount to a nice lead-in to a full day of NFL action.

Online sportsbooks are leaning towards the Spartans in the college basketball odds, pegging them as a short favorite.

UNC Greensboro opened up as a 2.5-point favorite, in a contest that features a total of 134.5. The Northern Classic is taking place north of the border in Laval, Quebec, with the Place Bell hosting all of the contests.

UNC Greensboro Betting Analysis

The Spartans had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, falling 65-53 to Hofstra. UNC Greensboro shot a dismal 35.7% from the field, and 16.7% from beyond the arc. They missed 36% of their three throw attempts, and were outrebounded by 5.

At the other end, they held their opponent to 27% from three, and forced 20 turnovers. Defense has been the calling card of the Spartans this season, as they rank 96th in defensive efficiency per KenPom, compared to 173rd at the offensive end.

Leading scorer Keondre Kennedy had 10 points in a losing effort, and was one of four Spartans to hit double-figures. Kennedy averages 16 points and 8 assists this season, but shoots just 41.5% from the field.

UNC Greensboro is a below-average offense, ranking outside the top-200 in scoring, effective field goal percentage and assists. If there’s one thing they typically do well it’s shoot the three, Saturday’s result notwithstanding.

Kennedy is actually more efficient from outside the arc than inside the three-point line, and the same goes for second-leading scorer Keyshaun Langley. Stephen F Austin struggles badly versus outside shooting, which could lead to big games for both Kennedy and Langley.

Stephen F Austin Betting Analysis

In fact, the Lumberjacks aren’t just bad at defending the three, they’re abysmal. They rank 350th in the nation in opponent three-point percentage, yielding a 42% mark. They rank 296th in overall opponent field goal percentage, and 160th in scoring defense.

Stephen F Austin’s leaky defense was on full display on Saturday against Middle Tennessee, as they allowed the 154th-ranked team in the nation to shoot over 52% from the field and 41% from three.

They lost the rebounding and assist battle, while shooting only 37% from the field and committing 20 turnovers. Senior Nigel Hawkins led the way with 18 points, but the guard gave the ball away four times on his own and was 1 of 6 from beyond the arc.

Kyle Hayman was the only other Lumberjack in double figures, as the team continues to struggle. They’ve lost three of four overall and own only one win this season against a team ranked inside the top-187 in the country.

Stephen F Austin vs UNC Greensboro Prediction

The Lumberjacks enter this contest ranked 212th in offensive efficiency. They’re among the 15 most turnover-prone teams in all of college hoops, and their 47.3% effective field goal percentage ranks outside the top-250.

Stephen F Austin is going to have all kinds of trouble scoring versus UNC Greensboro, and their defense is just bad enough, especially from beyond the arc, for the Lumberjacks to find plenty of success against.

Pick: UNC Greensboro -2.5 (-110)
