It’s going to take an unlikely run to the ACC Tournament title for either the Syracuse Orange (15-16, 9-11 ACC) or the Florida State Seminoles (17-13, 10-10 ACC) to get to the NCAA Tournament.

One of them will still have that glimmer of hope when they clash in second round play at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Syracuse has staggered down the stretch, entering this tournament as the 9-seed, having dropped four straight.

The ‘Noles are the 8-seed, and have found a little momentum heading into this matchup. Both teams had a bye on opening day.

After some line jockeying leading to the 12pm ET tip-off, it’s Florida State entering as a 1.5-point favorite. The game can be seen live on ESPN.

Neither squad is even in the latest projected NCAA Tournament bracket, though four other ACC schools: Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and North Carolina are all projected to make the tourney. The latest NET Rankings have the Seminoles a distant 99th, with the Orange at 94.

Syracuse Orange Betting Analysis

If you want to look at it as glass half-full, consider that two of the Syracuse L’s during this streak have come against ACC heavyweights Duke and North Carolina.

The glass half-empty option, however, shows an ugly regular season finale that may be more telling about this team’s psyche heading into the conference tourney.

Pegged as 1.5-point favorites over the Miami Hurricanes, Syracuse built an 11-point halftime lead they couldn’t close, eventually dropping a 75-72 decision to the ‘Canes.

The loss dropped ‘Cuse to 15-16 on the season, so barring a miracle run to the ACC Title, this will be the first losing season in the Jim Boeheim era, a run that’s spanned 43 years.

They’re also not close to full strength in this one, with junior big man Jesse Edwards (wrist) and freshman forward Benny Williams (lower body) already ruled out.

It appears  junior guard Symir Torrence (concussion) will be a game-time decision.

Despite the loss, Buddy Boeheim did match his season high with 30 points, to go along with nine rebounds.

He’s been so-so against the Seminoles this year, putting up 18 points and three assists in a 76-71 loss at home, then just six points on 3-for-10 shooting, including an 0-for-4 mark from downtown, though the Orange won on the road, 63-60.

Florida State Seminoles Betting Analysis

After a 1-8 stretch towards the tail end of their season, Florida State looked to be in a whole heap of trouble, but they righted the ship to win three straight. The latest was an 89-76 romp over the NC State Wolfpack.

Caleb Mills returned from a five-game absence and scored 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting and redshirt senior Anthony Polite had his first career double-double (14 points and 10 rebounds) as Florida State led wire-to-wire.

Their previous two wins were far closer, edging the Virginia Cavaliers 64-63 and besting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 74-70.

Mills was the leading scorer for the ‘Noles this season, averaging 13 points while hitting 37.2% from three-point range.

He was the leading scorer in both head-to-head matchups this year, posting 19 points and five assists, while drilling 5-of-6 from downtown in a win. He had 16 points, four rebounds and three assists in the loss.

While Syracuse is known for its ability to play well on the big stage, Florida State can too. They outlasted Duke in a 79-78 OT thriller in January.

Syracuse vs Florida State Pick

At one point, Syracuse was actually the 1.5-point favorite in this one, but the line has shifted back the other way, to where the Seminoles are the betting favorite.

Florida State is 3-0 straight up and against the spread in their last three, while the Orange are 1-7 ATS in their last eight.

Despite those figures, this could be the most entertaining game of Round 2. Both teams can put up points, but that total is a little too high.

Look for Florida State to put an end to this miserable Syracuse season.

Pick: Florida State -1.5 (-115)
