While Temple needs a miracle run tot he AAC title to make the NCAA Tournament, Memphis garnered a #10 seed in the most-recent projected March Madness bracket. Their odds to make the FInal Four are a respectable +4000, which is among the top-40 favorites.
Memphis Balancing on the Bubble’s Edge
Because of a six-game winning streak that included a victory at No. 14 Houston, Memphis finds itself inside the NCAA Tournament field of 68 in some recent projections while sitting just outside the field in others.
The Tigers are listed as one of the last four in in ESPN’s recent bracket projection, with AAC leader Houston the only other league representative. Even though SMU swept Memphis, the Mustangs are among ESPN’s first four out.

Memphis’s case is bolstered by nonconference victories over Alabama, Saint Louis and Virginia Tech, although a loss to Georgia is a negative. The Tigers are No. 44 in the NCAA Net rankings and have three Quad 1 victories. Houston has none. SMU has two.
Temple’s best non-conference victory is at Vanderbilt on Dec, 7, and its recent victory over SMU comes with an asterisk — the Mustangs played without star guard Kendrick Davis because of an ankle injury. Davis returned against Memphis. The Owls must win the AAC tournament to make the NCAA but a win here could severely damage Memphis’s chances.

Owls, Tigers Count on Freshmen
Penny Hardaway landed what some scouting services considered the best recruiting class in the nation when he added 6’11 Jalen Duren and 6’9 Emoni Bates, and Temple has been led by a group of holdover freshmen led by 6’5 Damian Dunn.
I'm still completely in on Jalen Duren
Just watch how fast he is end to end lol. And then to be able to gather and dunk this? The flashes are very much there pic.twitter.com/8zrs1Ano8U

Duren leads the Tigers in scoring (11.4) and rebounding (7.5) and has three of his five double-doubles since Feb. 5, including a 14/11 game in the victory over Houston He averages 2.3 blocked shots per game, 30th in Division I, and has been named the AAC freshman of the week four times.
Bates (10.4, 3.6) is the Tigers’ second-leading scorer, although he has missed the last five games with a back injury and is considered questionable for final four regular-season games. Sometime forward starter Earl Timberlake (shoulder) is questionable for Temple.
Khalif Battle goes down for the year, Damian Dunn & co. steps up. Dunn & Williams go down for a couple of games, Tai Strickland & co. steps up.
