Dukes Lead Troy To Victory

Troy is led by the freshmen guard duo of Duke Deen and Duke Miles.

Deen is having an outstanding season so far. He is averaging 13.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.5 steals a game.

Deen scored a team-high 17 points against Florida Atlantic.

Miles came through in the clutch against the Owls, scoring eight of his 16 points in overtime. His layup with 1:27 left in OT put Troy ahead 79-78 and started a game-ending 6-0 run.

Miles also had four assists and three steals as the Trojans forced 16 turnovers. After sitting out the first three games of the season, Miles has averages of 11.5 points and 3.0 steals.

Junior forward Zay Williams connected on all four of his three-point field goal attempts on his way to a season-high 14 points and six rebounds.

A transfer from Kent State, junior guard TK Smith added 11 points. He had scored a total of four points in his first three games at Troy. Smith was a junior college standout at Polk State in Florida.

Troy was outrebounded 46-36 but forced 16 turnovers.

Another transfer, junior forward Efe Odigie, has provided an inside presence after joining the program from UTEP. He is scoring 13.0 points and pulling down 5.3 rebounds a game.

Gators’ Recent Results

Florida beat Ohio State in dramatic fashion when Tyree Appleby hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.

The senior guard has been 1-of-9 from the floor before connecting. Appleby is one of five Florida players scoring in double figures as he is averaging 11.2 points and 3.6 assists.

It was the first close call of the season for Florida. The Gators had won their first four games by at least 13 points and an average of 21.3, including victories over Florida State and California.

The other four players with double-figure scoring averages are also seniors – forward Colin Castleton (15.8), guard Myreon Jones (11.8), guard Phlandrous Fleming Jr. (11.0) and forward Anthony Duruji (10.0).

Fleming, a transfer from Charleston Southern, scored a season-high 19 points and made four steals Wednesday.

Castleton finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. He is averaging 10.4 boards and 3.0 blocked shots.

Junior forward CJ Felder had his best game since transferring from Boston College as he had 10 points, five rebounds and three steals in 19 minutes off the bench.

Florida turned 18 Ohio State turnovers into 22 points, which helped offset a poor shooting night. The Gators made just 36.7% (22-of-60) of their field goal attempts and 28.6% (4-of-14) of their threes.

Ohio State shot 53.2% (25-of-47) but Florida was still able to rally for the win after trailing 47-37 with 13 minutes remaining.

Troy vs Florida Prediction

The schools have met only one time before, in 2009-10, and Florida won 80-58 in Gainesville. The result should be similar this time as the Gators have impressed so far in the young season against a good schedule.

The Pick: Florida -21.5 (-106)
