Gonzaga comes rolling into its NCAA Tournament semifinal game against UCLA at 8:30 pm ET Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

It’s Timme’s Time
KenPom.com now has Gonzaga sophomore forward Drew Timme ranked as the top player in the country, ahead of Iowa’s Luke Garza.
It is hard to argue the statistical guru’s calculations. Timme is averaging 19.0 points and 7.2 rebounds – both team highs – and shooting 65.0% from the field. He also seems to be leading the nation in fun.

Timme has been particularly impressive in the NCAA Tournament, especially as the competition has gotten stronger in each round.
Timme scored a career-high 30 points and matched a career best with 13 rebounds in a second-round victory over Oklahoma. He then had a 22-point effort against Creighton in the West region semifinals and 23 more versus USC in the regional final.
UCLA’s defense clamped down against Michigan in its 51-49 victory in the East Region final. However, no one seems capable of stopping Timme right now as he has scored 75 points total in the last three games.

Eye of the Tyger
Few players in the tournament have been more fun to watch than UCLA sophomore point Tyger Campbell. His big mop of hair flies in every direction while orchestrating the Bruins’ offense.
Campbell is also a solid player. He is averaging 10.2 points and a team-leading 5.3 assists.

While Campbell’s role has been more of a facilitator this season, he has given UCLA a scoring boost during their tournament run from the First Four to the Final Four.
Campbell scored 13 points in UCLA’s overtime win over Alabama in the regional semifinals. With 11 points against Michigan, Campbell was the only UCLA player in double digits beside Johnny Juzang, who went off for 28.
Look for Gonzaga to try to clamp down on Juzang, arguably the tourney’s biggest breakout star. That will give Campbell plenty of opportunity to attack the rim, something he does well despite being 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds.

Too Much Firepower
Gonzaga has been comfortably ahead at halftime in all four tournament games, leading by at least 10 each time and holding an advantage of 15.3 points on average.

UCLA should be able to keep thing close for a half because of its ability to slow the pace. However, look for Gonzaga’s depth and firepower to wear down the Bruins in the second half and an offense that leads the nation with 91.6 points a game to put on a show over the final 20 minutes.
