UCLA Bruins Betting Analysis

Perhaps the only thing sweeter than UCLA getting a shot at their first Pac-12 Conference Tourney title since 2014 is that they dispatched their crosstown rivals in the process.

UCLA downed the 3rd-seeded USC Trojans 69-59 in the late semifinal start. Just six days earlier, the Bruins beat the Trojans to pick up their first win in this head-to-head since 2019. Friday earned them their first winning series against them since 2018.

They’ll be looking for a series win against the Wildcats too, a team ranked No. 2 in the nation heading into this tournament.

Jaime Jaquez Jr scored 19 points with five rebounds and two assists to pace the Bruins’ attack. It’s the fourth straight game Jaquez Jr has led the team in scoring, averaging 24.8 points over that span. Tyger Campbell added 14 points, hitting 3-of-5 from downtown.

Those two, along with Johnny Juzang, were named to the All Pac-12 First Team.

The Bruins downed the Wildcats 75-59 at home in their first meeting this season on Jan 25, limiting Arizona to just 30.7% shooting from the field and 25% from beyond the arc. ‘Zona returned the favor on Feb 3, beating the Bruins 76-66.

UCLA was limited to 38.9% shooting from the field, and 21.4% from deep.

Arizona Wildcats Betting Analysis

It was probably a little closer than they wanted, but Arizona used a late second-half surge to finally pull away from the Colorado Buffaloes 82-72 in Friday’s first semifinal.

Part of that was due to the Wildcats missing point guard Kerr Kriisa, who was in a walking boot after spraining his ankle in their 84-80 win over Stanford in the quarterfinals.

Azuolas Tubelis led four starters in double digits, posting 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Justin Kier added 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.

As a team, the Wildcats shot 52% from the field and 40% from downtown. They made hay at the charity stripe too, hitting 24-of-25 free throws, outscoring Colorado by 16 in free throw shooting.

Arizona held the Buffaloes to just 38.7% from the field, but couldn’t contain them from deep, allowing a Pac-12 record 16 3-point hits on 32 attempts, which kept things close.

The Wildcats seeking their first Pac-12 Tournament title since winning back-to-back crowns in 2017 and 2018.

UCLA vs Arizona Pick

Arizona currently has the second best odds to make the Final Four, powered by an offense that ranks third in scoring in the NCAA, at 84.7 points per game.

They also boast Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Christian Koloko and Sixth Man of the Year Pelle Larsson.

They’ll likely need a better showing from Pac-12 Player of the Year Bennedict Mathurin, a projected lottery pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He was one of the few Wildcats that struggled shooting Friday, scoring 10 points on 3-for-11 from the field, including a 2-for-8 mark from downtown.

As for the Bruins, they are just outside the top-10 odds to return to the Final Four.  With many components still on a team that made a dream run a year ago, UCLA can handle themselves on any stage.

They also boast the top defense in the conference, surrendering just 64.4 points a game, good for 39th in the nation.

It’s enough to think upset on Saturday.

Pick: UCLA +1.5 (-110)
