When the last AP poll was released, the Terrapins slipped seven spots from 13th to 20th in the rankings. Their opponent, UCLA sits 16th in the nation. Oddsmakers still like the home side in this one, with Maryland 1.5-point favorites in the college basketball odds.

UCLA Bruins’ Cooking on Offense

It’s still early in the season, but it appears as though this UCLA team has returned to prominence as a force to be reckoned with in college basketball this year. They are rolling with five wins in a row, led by Wooden Award odds contender, Jaime Jacquez Jr.

The 6’7 swingman leads the Bruins in minutes and points per game, averaging 17.4 coming into this contest. Jacquez is one of a number of scoring options for this UCLA side. Fellow senior and teammate for the last four seasons, David Singleton averages 9.9 points, one of five UCLA players to drop at least that much per outing.

With a record of 8-2 this season, the Bruins are taking on all comers, with their only losses coming to Baylor and Illinois. Those are two of the best in the nation when it comes to looking at the odds to win March Madness this year.

With an adjusted offensive efficiency of 116.0, the Bruins rank 7th in the nation according to the KenPom ratings. It’s their ability to force turnovers that creates a lot of easy buckets for UCLA. They force 17.6 turnovers per game and score 22 points per game when turning over possession.

Maryland Terrapins Favored to Snap Losing Skid

With UCLA on a five-game winning streak and Maryland losing two in a row, you might’ve expected the Bruins to be the chalk in the  college basketball odds, but that’s not the case.

One thing is for sure, the Terrapins will have to make some adjustments on offense if they’ll want to defeat UCLA on Wednesday. After losing 64-59 to Wisconsin last week, Maryland fell 56-53 to Tennessee on the weekend in a game where they shot just 32.7% from the field.

2022-23 KenPom College Basketball Rankings

Team Rank Record Adjusted Offensive Efficiency Adjusted Defensive Efficiency
UCLA Bruins 8th 8-2 116 (7th) 91.6 (24th)
Maryland Terrapins 17th 8-2 112.8 (23rd) 92.0 (28th)

Home court should provide some advantage and has to be a key factor in the Terps being favored in the college basketball betting line. Maryland is 5-0 at home this season shooting a collective 47% from the field at the Xfinity Center.

UCLA vs Maryland Pick & Prediction

This should be a great contest Wednesday night in College Park. A raucous crowd and electric atmosphere is expected, which will certainly help Maryland against a high-caliber opponent.

One achilles’ heel for Maryland so far this season has been their slow shooting starts. Against Tennessee in their last game, they made just three shots for a season-low 17 points in the first half. Digging an early hole for themselves will likely take the crowd out of the game and put them in big trouble when they face UCLA.

Although it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll win outright, the Terps offense has been much better at home this year and they should be motivated to put their shooting struggles in their last two games behind them.

We already know that UCLA has no such trouble scoring the ball. Taking all of this into mind, our prediction in the UCLA vs Maryland odds is to stay away from choosing the winner and putting a bet on the over. The over is 5-0 in the Bruins last five road games and we see that trend continuing against Maryland on Wednesday.

Pick: Over 140.5 Points (-110)
