Virginia will attempt to stay in first place in the ACC when it visits Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta.

#7 Virginia is 9-1 inside the conference and 13-3 overall. The Cavaliers have won two games in a row and nine of their last 10, though they are on a three-game losing streak against the spread.

Georgia Tech (9-6, 5-4) has won two of its last three games straight up but lost three of its last four ATS and is the underdog at home.

UVa Winning Different Way

Virginia is winning in a different sort of way this season.

After years of relying on their vaunted Pack Line defense, the Cavaliers are ninth in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency, per KenPom.com, with 116.6 points per 100 possessions.

It was 3-point shooting that help Virginia defeated Pittsburgh 73-66 on Saturday home, failing to cover the 10-point spread.

With the game tied at 36-36 in the second half, Virginia went on a 23-9 run to pull ahead for good 59-45. The run was sparked when three seniors – forwards Sam Hauser and Jay Huff and guard Tomas Woldentensae – took turns making back-to-back 3-pointers.

Hauser finished with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting and has had a very consistent first season with Virginia after transferring from Marquette. He has scored at least 11 points in all 16 games and exceeded 20 points in three of the last five games.

Hauser is averaging 15.4 points and 7.0 rebounds a game while shooting 52.0% overall and 42.9% on 3s.

Woldentensae finished with 14 points, matching his season high. Huff added 13 points and eight assists.

The 7-foot-1 Huff is rated as the ninth-best plyer in the country by Ken Pom.com. He has averages of 13.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots while making 62.8% of his field goal attempts and shooting 47.9% from beyond the arc.

Huff has also scored at least 11 points in each of the last 10 games.

Junior guard Trey Murphy III was held to eight points by Pitt after averaging 14.7 in the previous three games. His season average is 11.1 and he has committed just 10 turnovers in 456 minutes.

Big Comeback for Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech rallied from a 17-point deficit in the first – it still trailed 50-35 at halftime – to edge visiting Notre Dame 82-80 on Saturday as a 3.5-point favorite.

Consecutive baskets by Michael Devoe gave the Yellow Jackets a lead with 2:06 remaining that they did relinquish. The junior guard had 19 points, 14 coming in the second half when he 5 of 5 from the field.

Devoe has scored at least 17 points in each of his last three games, raising his season average to 14.1. He also is dishing out 3.0 assists a game.

Senior guard Jose Alvarado also scored 19 points to go with six rebounds, six assists and five steals. That came on the heels of scoring a season-low seven points in a loss to Louisville in the previous game.

Alvarado is on course to repeat as a first-team All-ACC selection. He has averages of 17.6 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals while playing 89.2% of Georgia Tech’s minutes and shooting 53.1% on field goal attempts, 43.4% from 3-point range and 87.2% on free throw tries.

Senior wing Jordan Usher added 16 points and senior forward Moses Wright contributed 12 points.

Virginia Dominates Series

Virginia has won seven in a row against Georgia Tech and 10 of the last 11. However, the Cavaliers escaped with a 64-62 victory on Jan. 23 as an 8.5-point home favorite.

Hauser led Virginia with 22 points and Huff added 18 points and five blocked shots. Georgia Tech got 20 points, eight assists and six steals from Alvarado and 19 points from Usher.

Georgia Tech showed it can hang with Virginia two weeks ago and could use a win here to bolster its NCAA Tournament resume. The Yellow Jackets have also won eight games in a row at home.
