Oklahoma (8-2) will be aiming to win an eighth consecutive game when they take on Florida (8-3) in the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium on Wednesday, December 30th (8:00 PM EST).

The Sooners are being listed as 2.5-point underdogs.

Oklahoma is now on a seven-game winning streak after defeating Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship to win its fifth consecutive title. The Sooners have looked like one of the best teams in the nation after a slow start to the year that saw them drop games to Kansas State and the Cyclones.

Oklahoma is led on offense by freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler, who has thrown for 2,784 yards and 25 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. Senior running back Rhamondre Stevenson has also made a major impact since returning from suspension, racking up 479 yards and six touchdowns in five contests.

Oklahoma’s defense has also improved over the course of the season under DC Alex Grinch. The Sooners defense held Iowa State standout RB Breece Hall to just 79 yards on the ground in the title game, and haven’t given up more than 21 points in a contest since Halloween. One of the reasons for the improvement is the return of DE Ronnie Perkins, who had also been serving a suspension earlier in the year.

Gators Out for Redemption

Florida will be looking to end its impressive season on a positive note after dropping two consecutive games to close out the regular season. The Gators saw their CFP hopes dashed with a shocking upset loss to LSU before putting up a tremendous fight against Alabama in the SEC title game.

While the game against the Tigers showed the Gators at their worst, Florida’s effort against Alabama showed just how dangerous this team can be at its best. Florida put up 462 yards of offense against the Tide and outscored the undisputed number one team in the country in the second half.

The Gators key to beating Oklahoma is Kyle Trask. The senior pivot was named a Heisman finalist after a sensational season that saw him throw for 4,125 yards and 43 touchdowns with only five picks.

Trask will be in tough at the Cotton Bowl, however, as his three favorite targets and leading receivers from this season, TE Kyle Pitts and WRs Kadarius Toney and Trevon Grimes, have all opted out.

What’s the Best Bet?

Oklahoma is on a roll right now, having covered the spread in six of their last seven contests. The Gators have only covered the number once in their last five games and will be missing three of their best players Wednesday.

The Sooners know that Florida’s offense runs through Trask, who won’t have his favorite weapons at his disposal.

While Oklahoma’s defense has improved, the Gators still have plenty of holes in that department. They gave up over 600 yards of offense to Alabama, including 178 on the ground to Najee Harris. Rattler can go toe-to-toe with Trask, so it’ll likely come down to which defense can get stops.

OU ranks 18th in the country in total defense (334 YPG) and fifth nationally in third-down defense (28%). The lack of balance between the passing and running games for Florida means the OU defense should be well-prepared for the Gators’ attack. Expect the Sooners much-improved defense to come up with a few big plays on Wednesday to garner an Oklahoma victory.
