Hoosier Daddy

Saturday’s matchup in Columbus is a tantalizing contest between the old and, evidently, new guard of the Big Ten.

Tom Allen’s team is coming off a 24-0 win against Michigan State a week after snapping a 24-game losing streak to Michigan. It’s the first time they’ve beaten both programs in the same season since 1967 – the last time IU went to the Rose Bowl as conference champions.

Now, the Hoosiers have their biggest game since that loss to USC in Pasadena Saturday against the Buckeyes. They enter as three-touchdown underdogs. Quarterback Michael Penix thew for 320 yards and two touchdowns against the Spartans and is now 9-1 as a starter. He faces a tall order against Ohio State. But 21 points seems like an awfully big number for the upstart Hoosiers. This line could drop during the week.

Bedlam Battle

Earlier this season, when the Sooners dropped consecutive games for the first time since 1999, their annual rivalry game against the Cowboys appeared as if it wouldn’t matter beyond Big 12 country. But thanks to back-to-back 62-point efforts against Texas Tech and Kansas, Lincoln Riley’s unit has clearly righted the ship and has become nationally relevant once again.

A win over Oklahoma State keeps OU in the conference title mix – and potentially a spot in a major bowl. The Sooners as touchdown favorites feels about right.

Clemson Rebound

Another intriguing Week 12 showdown comes in Tallahassee, where Clemson looks to rebound from its first regular season loss since 2017, a 47-40 double-overtime defeat to Notre Dame, against struggling Florida State.

The Tigers are expected to have Trevor Lawrence back at quarterback following the former Heisman Trophy front-runner’s bout with the coronavirus, which forced him to miss two games. Dabo Swinney’s team is a big favorite against the ‘Noles, who, once upon a time, offered Lawrence a scholarship.

How their quarterback performs in nearly a month will be interesting to watch. This spread should also remain relatively unchanged.
