Ironclad Favorites

The 7-0 Tide open as 23.5-point favorites over the 5-2 Tigers in Tuscaloosa in the renewal of a rivalry game War Eagle has won two of the last three times. Auburn snuck by ‘Bama 48-46 last season.

YouTube video

Of course, the last time Auburn beat Alabama at Bryant-Denny was 2010, when Cam Newton led the Tigers to a 28-27 win on their way to a national championship.

This year’s version features a red-hot Nick Saban squad fresh off a 63-3 thrashing of Kentucky in a game that saw ultra-talented wide receiver DeVonta Smith set an SEC record for touchdown catches. Smith now has 33 in his career (and 10 on the season) after passing Amari Cooper and Chris Doering.

Auburn was solid in a 30-17 win over Tennessee, but not as impressive as Alabama in victory. Do the Tigers deserve to be three touchdown ‘dogs though? I expect this line to come down a bit as the week progresses.

Sooner Than Later

Watch out for Oklahoma. While a pair of losses earlier this season will probably keep Lincoln Riley’s team out of the College Football Playoff, the 6-2 Sooners blew out the Cowboys 41-13 in their Bedlam rivalry game Saturday. OU heads to 5-3 West Virginia in Week 13 to face the Mountaineers as 10.5-point favorites.

YouTube video

The Sooners have beaten the Mountaineers eight straight times, six by at least nine points or more. The current line feels about right – and might even grow as we head toward kickoff.

Cade McAnswer?

Jim Harbaugh’s future is very much uncertain in Ann Arbor as we wrote last week. But Michigan may have found their man at quarterback in Cade McNamara.

YouTube video

The redshirt freshman helped the 2-3 Wolverines overcome a 17-point deficit as UM beat Rutgers 48-42 in triple overtime. Now, the Maize and Blue get another historically-elite Big Ten program struggling this season in winless Penn State as 3.5-point favorites in the Big House Saturday.

This line could flip due to its relative Pick ‘Em nature and bettors fading Michigan in favor of a Nittany Lion squad still seeking its first win.
