  • Arkansas, Michigan State, and USC present the best early under bets for the 2020 College Football season
  • USC has the highest win total of the group at 8.5 in a tough Pac-12 Conference
  • Read below to find out why these three teams pose the best under bets for the upcoming 2020 College Football season

Opening win totals for the 2020 college football season have been released. Some win totals have been set very well, but for some teams, there is a bigger margin for error than some individuals might expect.

In the opening 2020 College Football win totals, Michigan State, Arkansas, and USC have all been given a higher number than they should have received. Looking into strength of schedule, recruiting, and their performance last season, I will tell you why you should take the under.

Regular Season Win Total – Arkansas

Win Total Odds
Over 3.5 -110
Under 3.5 -110

Odds taken April 11, 2020.

Arkansas did not have a season to remember last year. The Razorbacks finished 2-10 at the bottom of the SEC last season, with an 0-8 conference record. Former Arkansas head coach Chad Morris was fired midway through the year, and will now be replaced by Sam Pittman who comes over from Georgia.

Pittman spent three seasons with the Razorbacks from 2013-2015 as the assistant coach and offensive line coach. After originally leaving Fayetteville, Pittman joined Georgia as their offensive line coach for three years before moving up to assistant coach in 2019.

Pittman will have a tough task, as Arkansas has one of the toughest schedules in 2020. According to 247Sports.com, the Razorbacks have the second hardest schedule and will potentially play six teams ranked in the Top 25 next season.

Former Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks transferred to Arkansas in the offseason, which could be a massive boost for this offense. Arkansas will also be returning their three starting receivers and their star running back Rakeem Boyd. However, chemistry will have to be built early with Franks, as their schedule gets harder as the season goes on.

The Razorbacks open their season at home against Nevada and then go on to play Notre Dame, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M. Taking on the likes of Notre Dame and Texas A&M won’t be easy with a fresh face at quarterback. Luckily enough, they play Alabama and LSU at home but that will not be enough to tone down these elite squads.

Even though they have a top-30 ranked recruiting class coming in, I don’t see enough change to muster more than three wins.

Bet: Under 3.5 Wins (-110)

Regular Season Win Total – Michigan State

Win Total Odds
Over 5.5 +140
Under 5.5 -160

After 14 seasons with Michigan State, Mark Dantonio was replaced this offseason. Mel Tucker comes over from Colorado, where he led the Buffaloes to a 5-7 record in 2019. However, as I wrote when Tucker was hired in February, he is not coming into the greatest situation.

The Spartans finished 7-6 last year and will be losing a lot of the help that got them to that mark. Michigan State will be losing three-year starter at quarterback Brian Lewerke. Not to mention, they will be losing eight starters on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive end Kenny Willekes will be the subtraction on defense, as he recorded 10.5 sacks in 2019.

The biggest disappointment for the Spartans this offseason was recruiting. They have the fifth worst-ranked recruiting class in the Big Ten and did not manage to sign a single four-star recruit.

Luckily for Michigan State, they start their season off with three easier games against Northwestern, BYU, and Toledo. If they can’t get by this stretch without at least two wins, they are in trouble.

After Toledo, the Spartans have one of the toughest four-game stretches in college football. They play Miami (FL), Iowa, Michigan, and then Ohio State. I see Michigan State winning three, maybe four games in 2020. The 5.5 set win total is way out of reach with the talent they have to work with.

Bet: Under 5.5 Wins (-160)

Regular Season Win Total – USC

Win Total Odds
Over 8.5 +110
Under 8.5 -130

The Trojans finished second in the Pac-12 West last season with an 8-5 record. Despite not losing too many key players this offseason I believe the Trojans will still easily lose five games. Let’s take a look at who’s returning for the Trojans in 2020.

2019 Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year quarterback Kedon Slovis will be returning in his sophomore season after an unbelievable first year as the USC starting quarterback.

Slovis will be losing his favorite target Michael Pittman Jr. to the NFL Draft, but he will still have some familiar faces running routes for him. Amon-Ra St. Brown and Tyler Vaughns both caught six touchdown passes last season and will look to improve on that mark this upcoming season.

USC is bringing back 12 of their top 13 tacklers from 2019. So, overall the Trojans outlook for 2020 has a lot of upside. The two biggest issues are their schedule and recruiting.

The Trojans had one of the worst recruiting classes in the Pac-12. They recruited just 13 players, and only two of them are four-star recruits. Even though they have a lot of players returning, this is still an uncharacteristic move by the Trojans.

USC’s schedule starts with a bang. The Trojans will play Alabama in Arlington on September 5th. They have an easier game against New Mexico the following week but get right into the tough part of their Pac-12 schedule afterward. The Trojans will have to play Stanford, Utah, and Oregon on the road. To make things worse, they close their season against Notre Dame.

Head coach Clay Helton is already on the hot seat. This could lead to Helton making some rash decisions if the Trojans don’t start off hot. Winning nine games will be a feat with their tough schedule. Take the under.
