Save for a loss to Liberty in the FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl, Coastal Carolina has been a non-Power 5 wrecking ball on the NCAA gridiron.

They were a perfect 11-0 last season and have ripped off five straight wins in convincing fashion to start this year. In four games, they have scored at least  49 points, dropping at least 50+ in three games.

Their latest win came against UL Monroe, a 59-6 drubbing that had many of the starters sitting out by the second half kickoff.

One of them was starting pivot Grayson McCall, who was a tidy 13-for-13 passing for 212 yards and a pair of TD’s in his first half of work — though it should be noted he did suffer a slight ankle injury. He should be a go Thursday.

In their last two games, Coastal Carolina has kept their opponents out of the end zone altogether, outscoring them 112-9. They also enter Sun Belt play looking to build on a 10-game conference win streak.

They dole it out pretty evenly on offense, putting up 270 yards passing and 257 yards rushing per game. Wide receiver Jaivon Heiligh leads the team with 24 catches, 499 yards and a four TD’s. Reese White leads the team in rushing with a healthy 7.1 yards a tote for 374 yards and six touchdowns.

Their only close call this year was their only road game of the season, a 28-25 win over Buffalo. The Bulls used a punishing ground game, churning out 262 yards to keep things close. That helped them win the time of possession game 31:34 to 28:26 and keep the Coastal Carolina offense off the field as much as possible.

Red Wolves Reeling

Arkansas State has shared a similar fate as most the Chanticleers’ opposition this season: they’ve been steamrolled.

They enter this contest having lost four straight games, and giving up 50+ in three of those contests. They’re surrendering an obscene 45.6 points against on the year.

It’s not that they haven’t put up points. They lost an absolute shootout to Memphis 55-50, while averaging 33.5 points in their last two losses.

In their only win of the season, they hung 40 on Central Arkansas in a 40-21 drubbing.

Florida State transfer James Blackman has had some moments at QB, completing close to 60% of his passes for 1,264 yards and eight TD’s against four interceptions on the season. He’s thrown for multiple scores in three of the Red Wolves’ games this year.

Their defense has been non-existent this season. In their last game against Georgia Southern, Arkansas State surrendered 503 yards rushing. That is not a typo. On the year, they are surrendering better than 300+ yards passing and over 260 yards rushing.

What’s the Best Bet?

All signs point to another ugly one in Arkansas.

The teams that have lit up the scoreboard against the Red Wolves aren’t even offensive juggernauts. Every one of the four teams they have lost to enjoyed their highest scoring game of the season. Only one team — the Memphis Tigers — have come inside of 20 points of that season-high output.

Coastal Carolina puts up a whopping 48.2 points a game, and even though they possess the nation’s most efficient passer in McCall, who also ranks fifth in passing yards per completion, they still run a whopping 64% of the time.

Don’t overthink this one. Take the Chanticleers to romp, and crush that over.

Pick: Coastal Carolina -19 (-105) and OVER 71.5 points (-110)
