It’s officially College Football Bowl season. The action officially gets underway on Friday (Dec. 17) with the Bahamas Bowl and Tailgreeter Cure Bowl, the first and second of the 42 Bowl Games on this year’s schedule.

Eastern Michigan vs Liberty Pick
The first game to target is Saturday’s LendingTree Bowl between Eastern Michigan and Liberty. The Flames are a 9.5-point favorite, which is far too big of a number given how they closed out the regular season.
Liberty dropped each of its final three games by a combined score of 100-44. They committed 11 turnovers over that stretch, and didn’t exceed 16 points in any of those outings.
By the numbers, these teams are very evenly matched. Eastern Michigan has the advantage in points per game, and in points per play, while ranking slightly behind in yards per play.

Liberty grades out better defensively, but yielded an average of 33.3 points over their past three outings. The Eagles beat the spread in three of their final five games and have the talent to keep this game close.

Utah State vs Oregon State Pick
Our second selection also comes from Saturday’s slate. Utah State faces Oregon State in the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl, in a contest that features a total of 67.5.
Simply put, that number is too high. The Aggies and Beavers surrender an average of 25 and 28 points respectively, and Oregon State in particular leans run heavy in its play calling which slows down the game.

The Beavers rank 89th in plays per game, and given Utah State’s weak run defense (83rd in yard per carry allowed), Oregon State could turn this game into a slog.
Just four of the Beavers’ 12 games exceeded 67 points, while three of the Aggies’ 13 contests produced a total north of 67.
