Auburn at Mississippi

Have you watched Auburn play football in 2018? They are a truly dreaful, rudderless program, and I can tell you that one of the most SEO-friendly things a college football publication can do right now is publish Gus Malzahn’s buyout.

Auburn has fallen on trying times, and has gotten rolled by consecutive conference opponents. Tennessee is not a good team, but the Volunteers won at Jordan-Hare anyway. Mississippi State is not an exceptional team, but the Bulldogs drowned Auburn in a bathtub anyway.

Is Ole Miss a great team? Of course not. However, they have an offense capable of scoring on Auburn, and a defense capable of stopping Auburn’s dreadful attack.

Michigan (#6) at Michigan State (#24)

There is something supernatural about Michigan State’s ability to turn its Playoff-contending conference rivals into mush in East Lansing. It seems to happens year after year, and Penn State learned all about it last weekend.

Veering away from the supernatural, it helps that Michigan State has one of the best run defenses in the country. That doesn’t bode well for Michigan, who have apparently decided that the forward pass is not befitting a Michigan Man. They brought in Shea Patterson to finally develop a passing game, and so far he has yet to throw the ball for over 300 yards in a single game. Patterson’s very effective, completing almost 70% of his passes, but this is still a run-first team.

Another factor to consider is weather:

I’m not going to sit here and pretend that Michigan State is a great team, or that Brian Lewerke is a great quarterback. I’m just saying that Michigan State has been doing this year after year for as long as I’ve been a fan of college football and I’d love to get +225 for betting on it.

Memphis at Missouri

Quick quiz: who’s the leading running back in college football right now? If you guessed Memphis’ Darrell Henderson, you’d be right! Henderson has already accounted for 1,133 rushing yards on 110 attempts, which puts his average at 10.3 yards per carry.

So yeah, let’s not bet against that guy. Missouri’s fine, but I suspect that a lot of this betting line is influenced by the helmets and not a serious reckoning of the players wearing them. Most analytical systems have Missouri as the underdog in this game, and instead Drew Lock’s 3-3 Tigers are huge favorites.

I love getting on the other side of upside-down lines, and this is an upside-down line.
