Ohio and Toledo have clinched berths in the Mid-American championship game Dec. 3, but Toledo (7-4, 5-2 MAC West) can enter on a high note in a meeting at Western Michigan (4-7, 3-4 West) to end the regular season. The Rockets are 7.5-point road favorites but are 2-2 SU and 0-4 ATS since mid-week MACtion began.

Eastern Michigan (7-4, 4-3 West) is a 1.5-point home underdog against Central Michigan (4-7, 3-4 West). Bowl-eligible Eastern Michigan is looking for its first eight-win season since 1987.

Chippewas Will Chew Up Eagles

Central Michigan has won two of its last three behind freshman running quarterback Bert Emanuel Jr., who has rushed for 421 yards in the last three games, the only games he has played this season. Through a quirk in NCAA rules, Emanuel will not lose a year of eligibility by playing in only four games this season. He had 293 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a 31-27 victory over Buffalo in his second game and had 98 and a touchdown in a 12-10 loss to Western Michigan the last time out. He has 51 rushing attempts and six pass attempts.

Sophomore running back Marion Lukes, who rushed for 160 yards in a victory over Akron, is expected to return against Eastern. The Chippewas have committed 25 turnovers, 18 fumbles, and their minus-15 turnover margin is worst in the Division I. Eastern’s  Samson Evans has 469 yards rushing and seven touchdowns in MAC play after a career-high 258 yards in a 30-21 win over Arizona State that cost coach Herman Edwards his job.

Central Michigan has dominated this series recently, going 4-1 SU and 5-0 ATS in 2018. Over a longer stretch, the Chippewas are 8-2 SU and ATS since 2011. The Eagles are 4-2 SU and ATS in their last six this season. Emanuel’s play has added some funk to the Central offense, making it the pick here.

  • Pick: Central Michigan: -1.5 (-118)

Toledo vs Western Michigan Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Toledo Rockets -7.5 (-110) -295 Over 53.5 (-105)
Western Michigan Broncos +7.5 (-110) +235 Under 53.5 (-115)

Broncos Hold Underdog Value vs Rockets

Toledo is stumbling down the stretch in oddsmakers’ eyes, winning twice but going 0-4 ATS since a 52-31 victory over Kent State on Oct. 15. The Rockets are still scoring, averaging almost 33 points per game, but the defense has given almost 27 per. The Rockets lost to Bowling Green 42-35 as a 14.5-point favorite the last time out, when Falcons’ quarterback Matt McDonald threw for 392 yards and four touchdowns.

Rockets’ quarterback Dequan Finn missed the Bowling Green game with a lower leg injury, and is questionable. Tucker Gleason, who threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns in place of Finn against Bowling Green, suffered a hand injury in the first half, and his status is unclear.

Western Michigan broke a two-game losing streak in a snowy 12-10 victory over Central Michigan as a 10-point underdog the last time out. Sean Tyler had a career-high 177 yards rushing, quarterback Treyson Bourguet had 177 yards total offense and the Broncos limited the Chippewas to 253 yards.

Toledo is 4-1 SU and ATS in the last five meetings, although the Broncos won the last game in Kalamazoo 42-38 as a 2-point favorite in 2020. Toledo’s quarterback situation is such that bucking a recent trend is not a good idea.

  • Pick: Western Michigan +7.5 (110)
  • Season MACtion: 7-2 ATS
