#1 Georgia put its new top ranking on the line when it visits South Carolina at 12 p.m. ET Saturday in an SEC game at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. It will be the Bulldogs’ conference opener.

Georgia (2-0, 0-0 SEC) moved atop The Associated Press’ media poll following a 33-0 win over Samford of the FCS last Saturday. The Bulldogs vaulted over Alabama, which edged Texas 20-19.

South Carolina (1-1, 0-1) lost at Arkansas 44-30 in its first SEC game of the season.

Georgia is a 24.5-point favorite in a game that will be televised by ESPN after opening as 23-point picks. The weather forecast calls for sunny and a high temperature of 87 degrees.

Georgia has a 96.77% expected win probability as -3000 favorites on the moneyline in the college football odds. The Bulldogs are listed at +225 in the national championship odds as they try to defend their title.

Georgia Betting Outlook

Georgia’s defense has been nearly impenetrable even though the Bulldogs lost eight players from that unit in the NFL Draft, including five in the first round.

Georgia has allowed just three points in its first two games and its 1.5 points-a-game average is tops in the nation. The Bulldogs are sixth in total defense, yielding 220.5 yards a game.

Last week, Georgia gave up just three first downs and 128 total yards in shutting out Samford. The Bulldogs allowed then-#11 Oregon to score only a field goal in a 49-3 rout in the season opener.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett, a returning starter, is leading an offense that is averaging 525 yards a game. With +2500 Heisman Trophy odds, Bennett has completed 49 of 65 passes (75.4%) for 668 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Kenny McIntosh is the Bulldogs’ leading receiver. He has caught 14 passes out of the backfield for 178 yards.

Kendall Milton has 135 yards rushing and a TD on 18 carries and he and McIntosh could have plenty of room to run against South Carolina. The Gamecocks are second-to-last in the nation in rushing defense at 247.5 yards a game and Arkansas ran for 295 yards last week.

South Carolina Betting Outlook

The defense is a major concern for South Carolina. End Jordan Strachan and linebacker Mo Kaba sustained season-ending knee injuries in the loss to Razorbacks.

Cornerback Cam Smith left the game with an upper-body injury and is questionable for Saturday. The same holds true for safety R.J. Roderick, who sat out last week after injuring his arm in a win over Georgia State in the Gamecocks’ opener.

Defensive tackle Alex Huntley and backup defensive back David Spaulding are also injured and might not play.

Highly touted quarterback transfer Spencer Rattler has been so-so in his first two games since coming to South Carolina from Oklahoma. He is 47-of-76 passing (61.8%) for 603 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions.

Rattler threw a key pick in the end zone in the fourth quarter against Arkansas when South Carolina was trying to rally.

A connection seems to be forming between Rattler and wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr. Wells had eight receptions for 189 yards and one touchdown last week after the James Madison transfer caught seven balls in Week 1.

South Carolina doesn’t have a player with more than 53 yards rushing. Conversely, Arkansas’ Rocket Sanders gashed the Gamecocks for 156 yards on the ground.

Georgia vs South Carolina Prediction

Georgia has won six of the last seven meetings, including rolling to a 40-13 victory last season in Athens. Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart is 5-1 against South Carolina.

Georgia’s offense could be a tough task for South Carolina. However, the Bulldogs have been inconsistent since scoring touchdowns on their first seven possessions against Oregon. The duo of Rattler and Wells should get the Gamecocks under the number even against Georgia’s stingy defense.

Pick: South Carolina +24.5 (-110)
