Alabama vs Cincinnati Pick and Prediction

Can Cincinnati really pull off what will be a monumental upset in the history of College Football? While daunting, on paper the Bearcats have enough NFL talent on their roster to match up well with Alabama. Their two NFL corners in Sauce Gardner and Coby Bryant should be able to get physical with Bama standout Jameson Williams, and force Bryce Young to look elsewhere for big plays.

The likely key comes down to whether Cincy QB Desmond Ridder can make enough plays with his legs – as mobile QBs have traditionally given the Tide trouble in big spots.

Here are a few betting trends to note for the Cotton Bowl:

  • Alabama has won and covered six of their last eight CFP games
  • Alabama is just 6-6 as a favorite ATS this season, but they are 2-0 against the number at a neutral site
  • Cincinnati is an underdog ATS for the first time this season
  • The Bearcats have covered three straight games

It’s never a smart choice to bet against Nick Saban, but I’m doing just that as I’ll be taking the 13.5-points with the Bearcats. Despite their destruction of Georgia in the SEC title game, I tend to believe the Alabama we saw lose at Texas A&M, and needed miracles to come away with victories against Arkansas, LSU and Auburn is more of the real thing. With Cincinnati being a veteran laden group that has NFL talent at key positions to slow down the Crimson Tide offense, they will at least keep this thing competitive for the duration of the contest.

Pick: Bearcats +13.5 (-110) 1 unit
