  • You can wager on Florida’s Kyle Trask (-160) winning the Heisman vs any other player in the field
  • Trask is on pace to face Alabama’s Mac Jones in the SEC title game
  • Read below for betting analysis on the Heisman futures market

Florida’s Kyle Trask is the clear betting favorite in the Heisman odds entering Week 14 of the season, but Alabama’s Mac Jones is closing the gap after a strong showing in the Iron Bowl.

A new prop has been released that allows bettors to wager on Trask winning the trophy vs any other player.

The Gators’ pivot has -160 odds to win, while the Field is listed at +120.

Considering Trask is on a collision course with Jones in the SEC Championship game, is this a potential hedging scenario that could guarantee a profit?

Trask Setting SEC on Fire

Florida QB Kyle Trask is heavily favored to win the 2020 Heisman after torching the SEC in his first eight games of the season. Trask has thrown for 2,810 yards and a nation-leading 34 touchdowns to go with just three interceptions heading into Week 14.

He was as long as +5000 in the Heisman odds after Week 9, which makes it hard to justify a wager at his new price unless it’s a certainty he’ll win. This new betting prop allows you to either wager on Trask winning at -160 or betting any other player to win for +120. Trask has a -135 price tag at FanDuel in the regular Heisman odds shown further below.

Trask deserves to be the front-runner at this point of the season, but he’s far from a lock. The Florida QB has already suffered a loss to Texas A&M and is on a collision course with Jones’ Alabama in the SEC Title game.

If the Crimson Tide stomp on the Gators like they’ve done to every other team they’ve faced, it’s hard to see voters handing Trask the trophy.

Mac Jones (QB, Alabama) +150

Jones Closing in on Trask

Alabama QB Mac Jones is closing the gap on Trask in the Heisman odds after impressing against Auburn during the 2020 Iron Bowl in Week 13. The junior pivot went 18-of-26 for 302 yards and five touchdowns to lead his team to a huge 42-13 rivalry win. Jones saw his odds improve from +300 to +150 after the big win.

Jones has posted very similar statistics to Trask and could pad those numbers even more when the Tide face LSU in a revenge game during Week 14. Alabama lost a close one against Joe Burrow and the Tigers last season, but the Tide are listed as massive 28.5-point favorites this time around against a much weaker LSU squad.

This is a very tight Heisman race, and Jones is actually ahead of Trask by a single point in ESPN’s latest Heisman Watch. The Alabama pivot has thrown for 2,728 yards and 23 touchdowns with three interceptions through eight games.

The knock on Jones is that he’s thrown 11 fewer TD passes than Trask, but voters should recognize this is due to Alabama running the ball more than Florida.

Consider Hedging With Jones

Considering how tight the Heisman race is heading into Week 14, this is a scenario where hedging could actually be the smart play. Trask and Jones have very similar stats, and the trophy could come down to a single head-to-head game.

Alabama is going to be favored over Florida, so it boils down to what Trask needs to do in that game to impress voters.

I still believe Trask is the better bet due to the underdog role and high upside. You also have to consider Alabama star WR DeVonta Smith is sixth in the odds and could steal votes away from Jones. If Smith and running back Najee Harris lead the way over Florida, Trask could still win with a big performance in a losing cause.

Trask is the best Heisman bet heading into Week 14, but if you aren’t as confident as I am, you could bet Trask in the prop and hedge with Jones in a straight up wager to try and guarantee a profit.
