The Buckeyes aren’t the only highly ranked team from the state of Ohio.
The Cincinnati Bearcats have climbed to number seven in the polls thanks to their 4-0 record. They’ll put that to the test when they host the Memphis Tigers at Nippert Stadium on Saturday.
Cincinnati is 8-2 against the spread in the last ten games between these two teams. With that said, it’s not the spread you should be worried about. The value in this matchup is in the total of 55.5 for two key reasons.

Ridder Leading Bearcats Offense
Desmond Ridder is one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the country. He has 723 yards passing and 444 rushing yards in four games this season. He also has seven touchdowns through the air and three more on the ground.
This isn’t a player who simply racks up stats against bad teams either. His best performance came against #16 SMU in which he racked up 179 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Expect him to step up and have another great game against a quality opponent on Saturday.
Desmond Ridder.
That’s it.

While Luke Fickell is known for his defensive schemes, he’s absolutely embraced Ridder’s athleticism. Fickell has back to back 11 win seasons and is now 26-5 over the last three years. He has the Bearcats in an unfamiliar position and will need to continue relying on the offense to get key wins as the season progresses.
Memphis Will Lean on Brady White & Calvin Austin III
The Tigers offense has the ability to keep up with Cincinnati. The Tigers are ranked 5th in yards per game and 16th in points per game this season. There are two key players in particular that can create a scoring play at any moment.
Quarterback Brady White leads the way for Memphis. He began his college career at Arizona State and is now one of the best pivots in college football. He has 1,375 yards and 17 touchdowns in only four games this season. At 6’3 and 210 pounds he has a chance to be a player at the NFL level as well.
One of White’s favorite targets is wide receiver Calvin Austin III. He’s small in stature at only 5’9 and 162 pounds but he can fly, and more importantly, he can find the end zone.
He’s tallied 24 catches for 424 yards and five touchdowns so far this season. The Tigers will need both White and Austin III to have big performances to match the production from Ridder and the Bearcats offense.
Unless the match up is between two defensive heavy weights it’s also better to bet the over early in the week. The public loves to bet on the over and you’ll normally see the total slowly rise during the week.
With two teams with great offensive players like this game, you can almost guarantee the total of 55.5 will move north by kick off. Bet it and bet it early to get the best value.
The Pick: Over 55.5 (-113)
