Buckeyes Survive Terrapins

Ohio State enters game week vs Michigan following a scare against Maryland in Week 12. The Buckeyes rallied from a 13-10 halftime deficit to defeat the Terps 43-30 on Saturday. Ohio State was a 27.5-point favorite.

Ohio State’s passing game struggled against Maryland, so the team turned to the run game to try and get things going. Freshman running back Dallan Hayde was a monster down the stretch, finishing with 146 yards and three touchdowns.

Buckeyes’ QB CJ Stroud remains favored in the Heisman odds, but he’ll be looking for a stronger outing against Michigan after completing just 18 of 30 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown against the Terps.

Injuries are going to be a key talking point for both Ohio State and Michigan heading into Saturday. Buckeye’s star running back TreVeyon Henderson has been battling a foot injury, while RB Miyan Williams has missed two games with a lower-body injury and is questionable for Michigan.

Wolverines Escape Illini

Much like their Big Ten rivals, Michigan also survived a scare in college football Week 12. The Wolverines needed a late fourth-quarter comeback to avoid an upset loss at home to Illinois on Saturday. The Wolverines won 19-17 despite being an 18-point favorite.

The biggest storyline of the game was an injury to Michigan star running back Blake Corum. The senior rushed for 108 yards and one score before suffering a knee injury in the second quarter and exiting the game.

The latest Corum injury update is that he is dealing with a knee ailment and is questionable to play vs Ohio State. Corum’s injury status is massive, as the Wolverines could also be without RB Donavan Edwards on Saturday due to injury.

Michigan struggled in the passing game vs Illinois, as QB JJ McCarthy completed just 18 of 34 passes for 208 yards and no TDs. The Wolverines rank 86th nationally in explosive play rate, which could be a problem opposite Ohio State’s star-studded passing attack.

Michigan vs Ohio State Expected Line Movement

The Michigan vs Ohio State betting line is likely going to be reactionary to some key injury updates. The Corum injury is the most likely one to have an impact, as it was Michigan’s ground game that led them to a 42-27 victory over Ohio State last season.

Neither team has been particularly great at covering the number this season, but Michigan holds a slight edge with a 6-4-1 ATS record compared to Ohio State’s 5-5-1 ATS margin. Bettors won’t forget UM won outright as a 7-point underdog in 2021.

The public was all over Ohio State in this matchup last season, but it was the sharps who hit the Michigan spread during the week and caused the line to shorten from -7.5 to -6.5. We could see a similar situation in 2022 barring a Corum injury update.

Ohio State has been pushed around up front by teams like Northwestern this season, and there are questions about just how much more physical they’ve gotten since being bullied by Michigan last season. The Wolverines have also just been the more consistent team week-to-week so far.

We don’t foresee much movement in the Ohio State vs Michigan betting line, but if it shifts during game week, it’s going to be toward the underdog.
