Boston College has lost four games in a row since winning its first four games of the season. The Eagles’ latest loss came last Saturday when they fell to Syracuse 21-6 on the road. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech snapped a three-game losing streak when it notched a 26-17 road win at Georgia Tech.

Tre Turner sparked the Hokies’ victory with seven receptions for 187 yards and a touchdown. Braxton Burmeister connected on 15 of 25 pass attempts for 254 yards and two TDs.

John Parker Romo kicked four field goals and Virginia Tech amassed 237 rushing yards and 501 total yards. Despite those big numbers, the Hokies are 123rd in the FBS in total offense with 311.8 yards a game.

Boston College used two quarterbacks against Syracuse with injured starter Phil Jurkovec sidelined but neither led the Eagles to a touchdown.

Dennis Grossel started and completed 9-of-17 passes for 93 yards. Freshman Emmett Morehead made his collegiate debut and was 6 of 15 for 87 yards.

Coach Jeff Hafley has not said how he plans to deploy his quarterbacks Friday.

Virginia Tech rolled to a 40-14 victory over Boston College last season in Blacksburg and holds a 19-10 edge in the all-time series.

Neither of these teams inspire much confidence but let’s give the slight nod to Virginia Tech with its more stable QB situation.

The Pick: Virginia Tech -2.5 (-130)

Utah vs Stanford Odds

Team Moneyline Spread Total
Utah -325 -7.5 (-110) Over 54.5 (-106)
Stanford +250 -7.5 (-110) Under 54.5 (-114)

Utah has won four of its last five games to move to top of the Pac-12 South standings. The Utes beat UCLA 44-24 at home last Saturday.

Stanford is headed in the opposite direction. The Cardinal’s losing streak reached three games when they dropped a 20-13 decision to visiting Washington.

Tavion Thomas led the way for Utah as he rushed for 160 yards and four touchdowns.

Cam Rising added 179 yards passing while throwing for one TD and running for another. After missing the opener with a shoulder injury, Rising has thrown 12 touchdown passes against two interceptions in seven games. He has 1,318 yards passing and a 64.1 completion percentage.

Stanford lost a heartbreaker as it led 13-12 before Washington scored the winning touchdown with 21 seconds left on a 20-yard pass from Dylan Moore to Jalen McMillan.

Tanner McKee completed 21 of 32 passes for the Cardinal for 194 yards. However, he was intercepted twice and had no TD passes. For the season he has 14 scoring passes, five picks and 1,916 yards while completing 64.8% of his attempts.

Utah downed Stanford 40-21 last season in Salt Lake City and leads the all-time series 5-3.

Utah has all the momentum but is traveling during a short week. The gut feeling is Stanford, which was good enough to give Oregon its lone loss of the season, bounces back from its tough loss to sneak under the number.

The Pick: Stanford +7.5 (-110)
