TCU Betting Trends

Head coach Sonny Dykes aims to lead his team to the College Football Playoff in his first season at the helm. The Horned Frogs path leads straight through Iowa State. Expect TCU to be energized and prepared for this one.

Unfortunately, key pieces of TCU’s offense are banged up and could miss this contest altogether. Most notably, star receiver Quentin Johnston has been operating in a limited capacity for weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain. Even more worrisome, starting running back Keandre Miller was hit hard in the 4th quarter of the Baylor game and missed the final few series. Both are currently expected to play, but keep an eye out for any injury updates as the week rolls along.

At any rate, Max Duggan and the Horned Frogs offense keep finding ways to win. The maestro moved his offense down the field to set up the game-winning field goal against Baylor, and has been the backbone of this team all season long. Duggan has thrown for 26 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions on the year. He may not be the most talented quarterback in college football, yet Duggan brings all the intangibles needed to lead TCU to an undefeated season.

That being said, the Big 12 hasn’t given the Horned Frogs any quarter this year. Other than a 55-24 blowout win over Oklahoma in week 3, every team in the Big 12 has managed to stay within ten points of the Horned Frogs at the final whistle. TCU may be 8-2-1 against the spread on the season, but this Cyclones defense is no joke.

Iowa State Betting Trends

Iowa State has to be disappointed in the way their season has turned out.

The Cyclones have suffered six one-score losses and have been failed by a hapless offense. Although Iowa State’s famed 3-3-5 defense ranks in the top ten in the nation in points per game, yards per game, yards per play, and third-down conversion percentage, the Cyclones are just 4-7 on the season. It’s almost unfathomable how much the Cyclones’ offense has let this team down.

Sack artist Will McDonald IV will have to wreak havoc on the TCU offense for Iowa State to have any chance in this one. After putting up double-digit sacks in each of the past two years, McDonald has just 5 this year as offenses have done everything in their power to slow him down.

All that being said, Iowa State averages just 18.6 points per game, and 4.8 yards per play. Is that really enough to keep up with this high-octane Horned Frogs offense?

TCU vs Iowa State Predictions

Follow the trends when betting on this conference match-up. Make no mistake, this Iowa State defense is one of the top units in the country and will be well drilled on TCU’s tendencies.

The Cyclones may not be able to stop Max Duggan and the Horned Frogs, but they can certainly slow them down. Additionally, the under has hit in each of the Cyclones’ last 7 conference games. With Quentin Johnston and Keandre Miller banged up, there’s no reason to believe that will change here.

Pick: TCU vs Iowa State UNDER 47.5 (-110)
