Boise State Going For 8-0 In The MWC

Now, Andy Avalos coached this season masterfully for the Boise State Broncos. They may not have the best of teams but the Broncos stand at 8-3 (7-0 in the MWC). Defensively, Boise State allows just 17.3 points per game which is good for 12th in the nation. The Broncos are keyed by a three-headed running attack that has racked up 23 touchdowns on the season while averaging more than five yards per carry.

Honestly, Boise State controls the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball very well. As a result, they have a chance to win ten games.

Now, Taylen Green is just a Freshman but out of the several quarterbacks Boise State tried, he manages the game the best. He threw for 211 yards and a touchdown last week in the win over Wyoming. It was his poise that impressed the coaching staff the most. Green is 5-1 as a starter

The key for the Broncos is that running game but a few passes could keep the Utah State defense honest on Friday. Also, it does not hurt that Boise State is at home after road tests in Nevada and Wyoming. George Holani has a chance to break the 1,000-yard barrier at home. It does not hurt that Utah State allows almost 198 yards a game rushing on 4.9 yards per carry.

Boise State’s defense is pretty stout giving up just 267.9 yards per gain. Utah State will not have an easy time mounting drives in a hostile environment. The Broncos’ home-field advantage is a formidable one in the Mountain West.

Utah State Faces An Uphill Battle

Head coach Blake Anderson knows the game against Boise State will be difficult. The Aggies understand that the Broncos have higher aspirations while Utah State just wants to aim for a better bowl.

Yes, Utah State took care of business last week edging out San Jose State 35-31 at home. That boosted the Aggies’ conference record to 5-2 on the season. Their 6-5 record is quite an accomplishment along with the three-game winning streak.

This game expects to be decided early. If Utah State can muster some offense through the air and score early, that could take a little of the air out of the Boise State crowd. Again, this will not be easy given how good Boise State’s defense has been at home. Cooper Legas has a nice arm but miscues are in his repertoire. That cannot happen on Friday or this game will be over quickly. Then, can the defense stop the run? That has been a challenging chore all season.

Utah State’s preseason NCAAF win total of 7.5 will need a win this week and then in a bowl game to go over.

Boise State vs Utah State Prediction

Most pundits have Boise State all but guaranteed as Mountain West Conference champions. Can Utah State put a blemish on its record?

Given, what Utah State has endured this season, just covering the spread would be quite a feat.

Utah State getting 15.5 points does seem enticing, but Boise State is not facing BYU here. There will be no breakdowns like in that contest. It may be late, but Boise State has the offense and defense to lay the points.

Pick:  Boise State -15.5 (-110)
