Kentucky Over Auburn in Big Cat Battle

Let’s start with the juiciest upset pick on the board this week. The Kentucky Wildcats absolutely have a chance against the Auburn Tigers.

Quarterback Terry Wilson returns for Kentucky after missing most of last season due to a torn patellar tendon. Wilson is a true dual threat that will give Auburn problems with both his arm and his legs.

Unlike most dual threats in college football, Wilson is actually extremely accurate in the passing game. His career completion percentage is 66.5%. That will keep the Tigers secondary and Linebackers honest and when they play too far off the line, he’ll be more than happy to run the ball now that he’s back to full health.

The opposing quarterback is Bo Nix who you have surely heard lots about. After announcing his arrival in last year’s season opening stunner against Oregon, Nix was actually underwhelming in his first year as starter.

He finished the year completing only 57.6% of his passes which ranked 88th in the country. I think Kentucky has the advantage at quarterback and anytime the better pivot is +260 on the moneyline it’s a wise play.

The Pick: Kentucky moneyline (+260)

Tennessee vs South Carolina Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Tennessee -3.5 (-110) -175 O 42.5 (-110)
South Carolina +3.5 (-110) +143 U 42.5 (-110)

Vols Can’t Get Cocky Against South Carolina

Next on our list of SEC upset picks are the South Carolina Gamecocks. They face the Tennessee Volunteers at home and it is a winnable game to say the least.

For starters, it’s never a bad time to bet against Tennessee winning a tight game. Jeremy Pruitt begins his third season in Knoxville with a 13-12 record, including a 7-9 mark in conference.

One important note, Tennessee hasn’t started seasons well under Pruitt. Last year was an opening 38-30 loss to Georgia State and the year prior was a 40-14 loss to West Virginia.

This isn’t all about disliking the Volunteers, there’s also lots to like about South Carolina. Grad transfer Collin Hill won the starting quarterback job and that’s important. Hill compiled over 3,000 passing yards and 23 touchdowns as the quarterback at Colorado State the last three seasons.

He finished last season with a 67.6% completion percentage which is a good sign he’ll be able to transition to a new offense.

Another reason he could transition easily?

He racked up those numbers playing for Mike Bobo who was hired as the new offensive coordinator for the Gamecocks in December. The two have a long history and it should help Hill hit the ground running against Tennessee.

The Pick: South Carolina Moneyline (+143)

Louisville vs Pittsburgh Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Louisville +3 (-110) +125 O 55 (-110)
Pittsburgh -3 (-110) -153 U 55 (-110)

Take a look at the SEC win totals and you might be surprised to see Louisville listed as a three point underdog in this one. The Cardinals remain ranked despite losing to Miami last week. They have a great chance to turn things around with a victory in this one.

Louisville racked up 516 yards of offense in the losing effort against the Hurricanes proving they’ll be a force on that side of the football all year long. Running back Javian Hawkins was preseason all-ACC and has been proving why in the early stages of the season.

He has already racked up 235 yards and 2 touchdowns and should help the Cardinals keep the ball for long stretches against Pitt.

Pitt is set to unveil new uniforms in this one and while they undoubtedly look awesome, will it help them win this football game? Absolutely not.

It’s the first match up of ranked opponents at Heinz Field in 11 years. The opponent that night were that vaunted Cincinnati Bearcats. This is all to say games under the bright lights are foreign to the program and it wouldn’t be shocking to see them lay an egg.

Head coach Pat Narduzzi has lost at least five games every season in Pittsburgh and doesn’t have an offense that can keep up with Louisville.

Last season the Panthers won exactly zero games by more than 10 points. You know what you don’t want to do against an opponent that can strike quickly like Louisville? Keep things tight down the stretch. It leads to losses, something the Narduzzi’s Panthers have gown accustomed to.

The Pick: Louisville Moneyline (+125)
